I've got a female senegal but -
NO WAY!!!
Don't encourage the bahavior, try to ignore it & distract him. But whenever my 'tiel's in the mood, he just does his thing to his perches. Apparantly sexual frustration can lead to problems with the birds. I'm somewhat concerned too, as my macaw is nearing the age of sexual maturity, but I really don't want to breed him or get him a mate. |

OK, thinking about it, I hope I didn't come off as sounding mean in that last reply. But honestly, even if I wanted to let my sennie breed, she's far too young for that kind of nonsense anyway |

I agree with Cathy. Please don't encourage this behavior. Though it might sound cute, it can cause problems. My Senegal started plucking because he was sexually frustrated with my lovebird! |

okay - i have a question here.... this is somewhat awkward but my cockatiel is seriously IN LOVE with a blue dish towel (no, i kid you not ) he won't go anywhere without it including to sleep, and pretty much on a daily baisis will for lack of a better word attempt to have intercourse with the towel until he "finishes" - then seconds later he's back to his normal clicky inquisitive cuddly self
i never thought this behavior was in any way detrimental before... he has been doing this for about 9 months or so (and this after "courting" the towel for a few months ) and I have not noticed any changes in the rest of his behavior - he is still extremely friendly, not plucking etc.
should i really try to intervene and stop this behavior? or should I just let him do his thing?

Yikes. You know I'm not a behavior specialist. i'd say, take the object away. But if he's in serious stress.. I'm not sure, perhaps others have something to say about it? |

but that's just the thing - he's not stressed at all - he seems perfectly happy with his towel. perhaps I should call his vet to find out? |

Hazelnut is doing the same thing with his happy hut (birdie tent). But he seems happy and healthy, and he still does it with Pistachio too, so I don't see why I should take it away? What do you guys think? |

You know, I guess the way I look at it is that it's an instinct to mate & we can't take that away, so they gotta "do it" to SOMEthing, don't they? |

I think so too Cathy. I think it's also the time of the year, he didn't do this during the winter months, he just started doing it, and he used to do it last summer too. So it's definitely mating season. I really wish, him and Pistachio would make me some grandfids, but i don't think that's ever gonna happen |

It's funny that the 2 of them don't mate Shirin. That would be SO cool if you had some sweet little grandfids
They probably will someday tho, don't you think? they're probably just a little young & not experienced yet? |
