| Senegal Parrot question |
|
|
Hi, first let me introduce myself as I am new here. I live in Ontario Canada and have several species of parrot. I am told that senegals can be difficult to introduce to each other. I am acquiring a female senegal that has changed homes recently and is now 4 sale, not sure how many homes previously. She was purchased in January and I am told she was placed with a male that was aggressive with her..As I have a male that eventually I would like her to share a cage with I want to make sure the introduction goes smoothly..(she will be quarantined first) but here is my question----
Should the male be introduced to her cage or her to his cage....I want to put the right bird in the permanent home....the cage will be 24"x36"x64 (it is a large dome top cage) to provide flight room. I know that it needs to be done in stages : quarantine, then cages beside each other, then time out of cages together ie: play gym time... and finally sharing a cage. lol so Who goes to who's cage or does it matter? |

Welcome to fluffies! That's great that you're offering that Senegal lady a home.. I hope it's permanent!
As for living together: I have experience with birds of different species. I first introduced them to each other on neutral terrain: Another room for example.
I wouldn't put them together in one cage right away. (I have no experience with this what so ever)
Over here, I let Iago & Flit live in the same cage after some time. Then I had to separate them because Iago was getting frustrated. (He started with some hormonal plucking as a result)
Do you have photos of your flock? You can put them in your diary or homepage..

Welcome!
Maybe after they have spent time & come to know each other over a period of time on neutral territory, you could let them decide which cage they prefer.
Good luck with it! I sure hope it all works out I'm looking forward to hearing your progress! |

OMG! You have to make a homepage!! You have such great fids! How old are they? Have they been living with you for a longer period?
Could you tell some more about your red bellied? Well about all of them?
