Shocked Hi Bih! I just found this topic! It sounds exciting, are you planning on making a business out of it, or just as a hobby?

And it's not about the all mighty buck to me........ although of course EVERY breeder ought to be able to make a profit, it's only fair... they work their tails off.. especially if they are a good one! I just think the Down Under folks are missing out on some great species. Sad Sorry guys!

Hey, you know, you can't find those poicephalous in the bird shops here at all.. I think i'll need to go to a specialised breeders if ever I win the lotto and want to get one of them.. hehe..

and yes you're right, it's not all about the mighty buck to me either. I think the good breeders definitely deserve to get some sort of profit from it, but only the good ones. There are just too many out there that just don't care for the birds but for the money itself, and that's just too selfish to me!!

I think APollo wouldn't mind you adding subjects to the flock. (Loyal subjects) yet I think he would hate to share his throne with anybirdy!

No Sue, I haven't completely decided on the species yet, though I know that I'd would love to be breeding bird in two years time. Smile

Well I guess I can see how Apollo wouldn't mind another loyeal subjects, but definitely not friend... none will be good enough to be his friends... hehe

Yes, I think it is very exciting too.. though I have to wait a bit first.. Sad

Well the idea is to do it as a hobby really... I'm not going to try to breed kazillion birds all by myself... and I certainly wouldn't want that anyway, I want to be able to look after the little babies and make sure they all turn out some fine companion for their new parronts. Smile That's the aim anyway. Very Happy

Hmm...I was looking at this post from 2 years ago, lol. Are you still thinking about it? I think you might want to start small, like budgies and cockatiels, and if you enjoy it and it works out for you, use that experiance for harder birds. I'm sure if you DO decide yo be a breeder, you'll be a great one!

He he!
I have two tiels. They are supose to be breeding, its been a year I think, since they got together. We bought them a nesting box, but all lenny did was lay unfertile eggs. So far they havn't done anything. But they are getting to get WAY better since the first day I brought them.

I would love to see the new babie tiels if they do anything.
Bih (I don't know why they call you that), please tell us if you do try breeding!

PS: since there are so many mods here: How do you become a mod?
I would love to help Fluffies! Thank you. Please reply as soon as possible, thank you Very Happy

SO WHATS THE DEAL Confused WHY ARE THE CAG SO EXPENSIVE HERE AND WHERE ARE THE BREEDERS I HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM ADVERTISED. IF THE PRICES WERE LOWER IM SURE THE WOULD BE VERY POPULAR.

it's the same reason as to why Major mitchells are so expensive over in Canada or the US or everywhere else. it's the rarity of the birds that drive the price up.
I believe major Mitchells can fetch up to CAN$15000/?? that's crazy!! I paid $800 for both my babies, and that's considered on the high end of major mitchells! normally you can get it for $250. but anyway, that's not the point. they are rare here just like macaws so therefore driving the price up. you may say that they should just breed more, but we cant import birds anymore into Asutralia, so whatever stock there in in Australia, that's all the gene pool there are, so you can't overbreed in Australia either.

Ahhh, that explaines it, I didnt know that certain birds are not allowed in Ausrtalia Its a shame but at least this will keep our birds free from any forien disease.
