The head bobbing is a communication gesture. Or, it can be a feeding gesture if doing it to the other bird then touching beaks. The to and fro behavior usually means they want to get out and move around. Do they come out of the cage?

Yes Bobbing their heads is one of their ways of saying they love you and they want to give you lots of affections. It's a good thing.
Running back and forth can be that they want to come out like Robin had mentioned, and also, sometimes they do that just because they are such active little creatures and they just have to be on the move constantly!! Either that or it means that they're itching to want to do something but not sure if they should go ahead and do it or not, so they pace back and forth side to side until they decide. it's cute to watch when mine budgies does it (even when they are out of their cage, they do it on they playgym... like when they want to fly to a certain part of the room but not quite sure if they should or not... ) |

Don't forget bobbing can be a sign of having fun! My little guy makes a special noise when he does this certain head bobbing - my better half says he is laughing, because it almost sounds like he's saying 'ha ha ha!' He does this when he is playing with his toys and his having a great time |

Oh I am jealous now! I've had about 3 budgies in my lifetime and none of them were climbers Ah well, the little guy I have now is about the craziest I've seen with outside toys! When we have company over and they see him throwing his things around they are always amazed |
