Budgie blood blister/cyst?  Reply with quote

Hi guys, im new here to the forums and its unfortunate my first post has to be about a problem to one of my wee budgies. Perry has developed what looks like a blood blister/cyst type thing underneath his wing. He cut his wing a few months back and this has basically built up over time, its a big red bubble of some sort quite hard to describe. Anyway like i was saying he cut his wing and lost a bit of blood a few months back and i think thats whats caused this blood blister of some kind to build up. Ive read online about them and apparently they take care of themselves and heal in time but hes had it for a couple of months now it doesnt seem to be going away. Again i asked my breeder about it and he says its actually quite common when i described it to him and he said its actually good for them for their immune system or something. Perry (my budgie) is eatting and drinking fine and is always alert talkative and thats why ive kinda just ignored it and let him be, but theres just no sign of this blister dissapearing. I couldnt believe it the other morning he cut his wing again! i thught at first the blood was from his blister busting or something but turns out he cut another part of his wing hes soo clumsy. Anyone got any info regarding this type of injury im just not sure whether its a blister/cyst etc, ne help would be appreciated! thanks guys.

Hi jimmy_perry,

I am sorry to hear that Perry has a health problem. Sad Comfort

This sound like something for an avian vet.
They are the experts in bird health.

Hi, unfortunetly it looks like a tumor. i did some research on net and found a pic of a similar bird with a tumor and it matches my poor perrys. Jeez what a way to join a forum when u find out your budgie has a tumor. Im goin to take him to an avian vet tomorrow im just dreading takin him in the car, i dont want him jumping about in his cage risking more injury and bleeding. Tumors like his are pretty deadly so im preparing for the worse, its a pitty as perry is still very active in everything he does, eatting, drinking etc. Just one of those things i guess.

Hi jimmy_perry,

If it is a tumor, it is not looking very good Crying or Very sad

You also write that perry is very active and he is drinking and eating. That are very good signs. Lets hope for the best, when you go to the avian vet tomorrow. The best of luck to you and your perry. Comfort

Well guys took Perry to the vet...pretty much a waste of a journey. She told me basically we need to x-ray his wing and see whats going on. I asked could it be a tumor and she said it could well be a tummor growth of some kind or not ..something along those lines. She asked what age was he, i told her his age and told them how he cut his wing a few months back and that this growth has developed since then. Its not actually on his skin, its just beneath the wing/on the wing sort off. To be honest i dont think she knew herself hence the reason for an x-ray. Well then she tells me its goin to cost £50-55. As if that wasnt enough then another £50-55 for the operation if he needs it. She was happy to hear he is still active, eatting, drinking etc. To be honest guys im feeling i should go with my instinct on this one and to just let him be and see how things go.

Maybe if down the line i see him in pain or other problems arise then i should go for the vet and the x-rays etc but just for now i think im goin to leave it. The veteniary seemed professional and stuff its just id rather let him be..oh and then ofcourse if i did go ahead with the operation or x-ray..theres a small chance that he could die because of the anasetic or however its spelt. To me its just not worth it..YET. Im going to go to my breeder tomorrow to see what he says and show him the pic i linked to one of my earlier posts here. He told me to just let him be as long as he is perky and eatting etc. £100+ is just too expensive especially if there isnt nething wrong..i know theres always the chance that there is but £100 or more is just too much. Ill look after him in meantime and keep a close eye. Fingers crossed he heals himself.

He was a nightmare to get out of his cage as it was the first time i had to take him out..my mum dropped him on the carpet getting him out then we panicked but he didnt fly away just walked about lol then we got him back up. ...and then the same thing happened again when i myself this time went to put him back in his cage and dropped him and he landed on the carpet lol..poor perry he must be shattered, we were both a scared of grabbing him firmly because of his tumor thing. When i seen him on that operating table when they looked him over he looked soooo lonely in that little cage all by himself..he just looked up and wondered where he was when the vet was looking at him. When i got back i thought jimmy my other budgie would be sitting quietly on his perch missing perry...and i find him down EATTING ALREADY!! perry was barely gone 5 mins so much for jimmy missing him lol. Thanks for the posts guys and your help and good wishes, much appreciated.
