| Budgie lost his mate |
|
|
My sister's boyfriend's female budgie just died, and her mate who is left behind is very depressed and has stopped singing and flying. They're thinking about getting him a new mate. Are old budgies usually accepting of new birds? Is it a good idea to get him another mate at this age? I'm not sure how old he is exactly, but the other one died of old age, and I think they were roughly the same age. I offered to give him one of my spare cages, so they can have seperate cages at first while they're getting used to eachother, but the goal is for them to fall in love and share the same cage Any advice? |

There are dozens of older budgies in bird shelters. Maybe he could even help pick one that he likes. |

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Birds can really feel depressed over the loss of their pal, can't they?
I don't have the answer to your questions though.. |

Thanks everyone. I don't know what he's going to do yet, but the good news is that his budgie is feeling more chipper and has been playing and flying again |

Male budgies are tend to be accepting of new birds.
I would have said give the little guy a little time to come to term with it suddenly not having a mate there. As far as i know birds don't actually 'grieve' so to speak. They just need to get over the sudden 'disappearance' of their mate. |
