budgie nest box wont use it  Reply with quote  

i have a new pair of budgies they are male and female there bonding feeding each other but not one of them has been in the nest box to check it out do they do this before they mate or after or how can i make them go in and check it out some one said take it out and put it back in a few days will this work the budgies are both 06 birds so there ready or how long after feeding each other will they mate

06 birds... how old are they? They need to be 12 months old or older to breed.

Some birds no matter what you do, they just don't see eye to eye... Birds can have preferences too sometimes. so if they really don't want to.. they won't.

The other thing is what does the female cere look like at the moment? is it brown and crusty?

hi i dont know there age it just says 06 on there rings the females cere is starting to go brown and crusty not far off they are feeding each other a lot now to but i cut the hole a bit bigger in the box cos i didnt know if it was to small the male tryes getting on her back when they feed each other but she just flys away from him

there's a possibility that they are late 06 birds... so may be she's just not ready to mate yet. I would say take out the nest box for now and just let them get to know each other without the pressure of reproduction. see how they get on and let them 'fall in love' so to speak.

yer ur rite it probley is late 06 birds ill take it out and leave them till next year thanks

Tony where about are you located? are in Spring/summer season now? or like me, Autumn/winter season? if it's warming up, it's probably not a good idea to put them to breed, as heat can kill babies. put them in again with a nest box at the beginning of autumn. if you're like me in Australia/southern hemisphere, you can wait may be till July or so and put them in and see how they go.

im in england its ment to be summer but had a lot of rain since i had them i keep them in my house
