| Budgies and love birds... |
|
|
Im posting this for my mum...she has 5 budgies and 4 lovebirds, for several years they have lived in seperate cages but side by side...she would like to put them althogether in a lovely big cage...does anyone know if thats okay? Would they be able to all live together? Out of the lovebird pairs, one has a deformed leg, (we call her wonky leg bless her) she gets around but awkwardly would it be best to leave these pair on there own do you think? Would appreciate your experience/thoughts on this...thanks |

just wondering, how big is the cage?
Generally I Think both both budgies and lovebirds are bullies. I'm not sure how well they well get along. I guess it really does depends on the size of the cage.
may be someone else might be able to help you more. sorry. |

Yikes I don't think I would put them in one cage.. Lovebirds can be a big pain. They even win from bigger birds! |

I wouldn't put them together..
if the one lovie has a deformed leg, the other birds may bully it from its disability. (not its mate, but the budgies). In the wild if a flock member has something wrong with it, the others will attack it until it dies, because they dont want illness spreading thru the whole flock..
and lovies are bully birds! I've seen a pair run indian ringnecks off big parrot gyms because they don't want to share! |

I really would strongly recommand that these birds be keeped septerator cages. You are dealing with aggressive birds. You put them together and in a week or maybe two, there will more then likely be feathers flying.

Some people have birds of different species that can live together - one on one - but it is rare, always worrisome.
I know of one guy - who has a Love bird who's in love with his female Ekkie & vice versa - now they have to be kept apart because of attempted breeding - not that there would be any hybrids! - but because he doesn't want a hormonal Ekkie & Lovebird.! He never thought this would happen. They have always had separate cages - just play times altogether. He also has a Sennie.
I know of one lady who has a pair of P'lets & some Budgies. The female P'let keeps flying over to the Budgie cage to hang with her 'Love', a blue Budgie.
I'm beginning to think of Birds like i did of fish, when i had them - keep only one species for none of these problems & save your sanity. |

Sounds like your Mom need an aviary - divided perhaps - is she campaigning for an addition? |
