Cookies Accident  Reply with quote

Hi all,
I;m writing again and unfortunatly, with bad news. Cookie, my 5 year old budgie lost her toenail. Here is how it happened. One day we noticed that Cookie's foot was scratched up,but it wasn't bleeding or looking like it was causing her discomfort. So we left it alone.(She gets panicked VERY easily so trying to catch her would make things worse) Well, i was healing nicely and one day, one of her toes blew up like a hot air balloon! It was red and swollen so we took her to the vet immediatly. They cleaned it out and gave antibiotiques in case of an infection. At first we thought it was Dobby who caused her foot to bleed, untill it occured to us that Dobby's beak is stronger but not sharper. Then 2 weeks later, I saw Cookie foot get caught in her feed bowl, the kind that hangs outside a cage, we removed it immeadiatly and now her toe is amlost back to noramal, she will never grow a nail on that toe, but at least she will be okay.

How bizarre! Shocked You just never know when something strange will happen. I'm glad you found out what the problem was - how the heck was she getting her toes caught? So what kind of feed dishes are you using now?

She just lost the nail right? - she still can grip? Poor thing.

Yes she can still grip. but the toe is still a bit swollen. I'll post a pic of the dish on my diary so you can see what type it is. I've heard a few stories where birds get injured by these types of bowls, i don't know why they are still availble in stores.

I went to your diary page & the photos were blanks. I had that happen recently when I uploaded a photo - it worked the 2nd try.

check it out & see for yourself - unless it is my computer.
