| Getting a Pal for our male Budgie |
|
|
We have been looking at many Budgies since we decided to get a pal for our Budgie Laker. We looked at shelters, home ads, & breeders.
Laker came from a shelter situation. We don't know how old he is. He's mature & healthy. We've had him 10 months. He has become very tame & is learning all sorts of stuff.
He comes when called. He's out most of the day & he's flighted.
He eats noodles, rice cakes, apple pie & hermit cookies, sprouts, carrot tops, & now banana & mango are his newest tries. He likes to hang with everyone in our household.
We have a pal for Laker!
In the end we went with a home breeder - a young woman who has 4 pairs of Budgies. She's worked as a volunteer for rescues & at pet stores. She had a nice aviary for her birds. We visited him last weekend & when i was holding him he ran up my sleeve & lodged himself against my elbow. Later he poked his head out of my hand & grabbed my skin & held on to me. He was so sweet - I'm still excited about the meeting. Talk about a bonding experience.
So it is with pleasure I introduce our new Budgie to be. He was hatched April 1st. - one of the things that attracted me to him - He comes home the end of May. We hope all goes well.
The photos are found in my April & May's Journals. |

Hmmm not sure why but the name "Opal" popped into my head. Maybe its the pale blue and yellow colouring on his chest that reminds me of those pretty stones |

I don't know a name..maybe you could wait untill you find out his personality? He is just so cute! Maybe you can name him Skylark? Of course...that's what I want to name my budgie, but you can use it if you really like! |

That is so sweet - thanks!
Actually we're in debate around here & no one can definitely say which name suits. I like the name Skylark - actually Laker was originally called Lark at the shelter. I do however like simpler names ....... we'll see. But anyone who has any more ideas I'd appreciate it.
Tonight his breeder emailed me that
he fledged today & he's a good flier!!!
- I'm so excited & pleased. |

That's such exciting news I know you'll have your baby before you know it! I can't wait for mine. He/she should wean in June, but have to wait until I move in August. I can't wait to hear what name you end up with.
Congratulations again.

Rio is here & he's now 2 months old.
My son came up with the name Rio - but some days i think it should be something else - we usually call him the baby.
Rio is quite the character. He tries to do everything Laker does. Laker on the other hand sometimes tricks the little one & sneaks away to another room & hangs with us. I think he needs to get away some days. The baby is getting used to this as well & can entertain himself on the gym while he waits or after a while he'll come flying into the room as well. He is crazy for the green grasses i've been collecting for treats.
.
I have lots of photos of him in April/May & June etc diary pages.
Getting the 2nd bird was a good idea overall - Laker is quite happy - never bored & lots less neurotic & aggressive with us.
Although a negative, but understandable in the early days ~ He seems to need to know he's still the special one & is very upset with the baby if we only talk to Rio. I've seen this with pets before. Laker is still the special one so he hasn't much to worry about. |
