| Hermaphrodite 'keet???? |

OK - now that I have your attention.....LOL!
One of the new flock is a sweet little blue budgie named Happy. He's probably at leat 18 mos. old (he was a gift to my in-laws about 14 months ago). He developed the tell-tale blue cere to properly identify him as a him - but in the last 2 or 3 months, a brown layer grew over it - and has remained there. There is absolutely no irregularities to the cere - it just changed from blue to brown???? Has anyone ever heard of this? Is he maybe a she? |

Hey, yes female budgie can have light blue cere, and only becomes brown and crusty when they come into breeding condition. Some budgies will loose that brown crusty layer once they are out of breeding condition.
It's pretty normal for them to do that.
I'd imagine that the blue on the cere before it turned brown was not a deep blue colour, but rather a light sky blue right?? |

Hi, Cheeta - well, I can't be sure. See, Happy and Cupcake have come to us after my father-in-law developed asthma and the doctor told him the birdies had to go bye-bye.
BUT - I have been doing some research and have found information confirming what you have said - apparently this is especially common in the blue 'keets. So I have come to the conclusion that Happy is inDEED a female. She is the love of Budgie's life! He absolutely adores her. The other new fid, Cupcake, is all girl. Bossy and snippy! Sheila, who was our own little girl, doesn't seem to mind the new ones one way or the other.
At any rate, Budgie has a harem, and I think he's most pleased! LOL! |

Haha, a harem indeed! He's either going to be very pleased or very henpecked!
Nice to meet you by the way, I'm not a big expert like Cheeta so I've been keeping quiet till now |

LOL - Nice to meet you too!
Actually, of the 3 girls, Cupcake is the hen-peckiest. Sheila doesn't seem to really be bugged by anyone -she's a very live and let live girl. In fact, I think when it was just Budgie and Sheila, she got a little tired of his advances - he LOVES other birds. (You should see him chase after my other 2 larger birds!) Happy seems - well - happy to receive Budgie's attention, though. So I think it's all good. I know that when Cupcake and Happy were alone, that poor little Happy was continuously bullied by Cupcake. So Budgie's attention is alot more positive for her. |

LOL.. of Budgie, sounds like a casanova in the budgie world!! in fact he sounds exactly like ALL my male budgies.. hehehe.. In my own words to my husband... They are ALL bisexual!!! Anyone that is willing to flirt back, my boys are sure to be there... including other male budgies...
Most of my girls are snobs... hehe... but happy to chase after boys though. so good to hear that Happy has someone to 'converse' with other than being pecked on by cupcake. |

Too funny!
My next goal here is to get photos of all four of them - Budgie is lutino, Happy is blue and the other two are little greenies - quite a colorful bunch! |
