lothario the budgie  Reply with quote

we have a male budgie named lothario, ( can you gess why?) who has mated at least once with every single female budgie we have! Laughing there was one female that he took a real liking to and now she's his mane mate. i thought that once a male budgie mated with a female budgie he stuck with her?
lasttime his mate ( jade) got pregnant my mother put them in a cage by themselves so lothario would be paying attention to jade, it worked, for a bit.
once jade had finished with her clutch, we put them back with the other budgies. and ( of course. Rolling Eyes ) lothario picked up where he left of, mating with the females.

what should we do? Confused

How many other budgies do you have? How many males and females? Maybe you should just set them up as pairs.

If not 2 more males to pair them all up, then when he mates with all the females are they all laying fertile eggs? If no nest boxes are present and they are not laying then is it really a problem? YOu could also always keep he and his mate separate from the others. He would not be alone but it would prevent the problem.
