| My Lime boy is all grown up!! |
|
|
Well no not really.. He's just ready to mate that's all.. I caught him trying to do the deed with (wait for it.....).. yes one of his sisters!! What an incestuous (is that a word at all?? LOL) little guy hey!!! (though I don't think he actually knows Passion is his sister at all since she's from the clutch after him!!)
I was hoping I wouldn't see anything like that within the aviary, which is why I am NOT providing any nesting boxes... Sheesh... What am I goting to do with these guys... may have to get another aviary and seperate the girls and the boys... hehehehe.. think hubby will like that idea?? LOL.. I doubt it.. hehe..
Anyway, Just thought I'd share my little experience with everyone here.. LOL |

Mum has the same problem, so I got her some more females. Do you think hubby will like that idea? Sounds like they are pretty comfy in the avairy if they are starting to think about that! I wonder how many people have inadvertantly breed siblings not knowing any better? |

Ha ha ha Bih! Your description of the incestuous happening is just hilarious! Too funny! Ha ha ha! I was laughing so hard sorry!
Passion? What's in a name? Ha ha ha!
I have no clue what will happen now, if you don't provide them nestboxes? I'm not a breeder, so I don't know?
Boy, did I have a good laugh! |

Could you maybe put up some kind of plexiglass barrier Bih, to keep them seperated? |

Sue, glad you had a good laugh... I was laughing as well when I first saw it... but then I didn't think it was too funny after the Lime's second attempts.. hehe... he was cute though trying to woo Passion over with all his feeding and stuff..
As far as I know, budgies will rarely lay eggs unless it's in a nesting box, so I'm hoping, I don't have one of those rare birds that will go against the traditional ways of budgies!! hehe... I hope I don't find an egg on the bottom of the aviary!! That wouldn't be good. hehe
Cathy, I don't think I can devide them up in the aviary. I thought of another way, which is to bring Lime back inside with Lemon, and hopefully that will kerb his mating behaviours. I might just do that, but I'll wait and see what happens in the next few days. |

Ha ha ha so I'm not the only one laughing!
Glad to hear that budgies will mostly refuse to lay unless it's in a nesting box. I really had no clue.
I remember Dumpy (my sister's budgie, boy was she cute) was laying on the bottom of her cage. But then, it's a cage! |

nope you were definitely not the other one laughing.
As far as I know, that it is very rare that budgies will choose to lay outside a nesting box, and also, they will not lay eggs without a partner.
I guess Dumpy was just a very rare budgie afterall!! |

I'm just curious here. Is it safe to allow sibblings to mate? I mean, will it cause conditions with the offspring? Maybe Greg will know the answer to this one. If it's safe, then why not have some new babies? Unless of course you don't want more right now |

Hey CM... Budgies are not allowed to breed with it's siblings, this does cause inbred, and it does cause deformities and stuff. Weaker bloodline and stuff.. So it is advice again breeding siblings.
As well as I am happy with ten budgies at the moment... don't need any more!!! LOL... Too many I think... hehe.. |

Hi Brother and sister is risky and personnally wouldn't recommend it for you will have deformities some what with the young? Bloodlines won't be strong and be prone to sickness with young offspring raised ,when breed by brother and sister...also deformities visually which l experianced many years ago(20+years ago,oh my memory is getting bad..he..he)One of many Zebra Finches pair breed without knowing because l had to many?? brother and sister breed and only one survived(forgot out of how many) It happened to be a boy but without feet,he adjusted to his feetless very well as you would? but had trouble breeding after finding a mate, always slipping of when riding the wave..l kept him, for l felt sorry for him and my doing allowing it..unfortunately he only lived a few years then died unexpectedly..This is why now with my tiels l only keep small numbers so l can monitor who is with who...l would not allow inbred breeding..full stop! If any of my tiels inbred as sad as it may sound, l will have to make the descion to find another family for one of them..since tiels
bond for life
its not good to seperate a breeding close to each other.Stresses them out?...This makes me wonder how some breeders mass produce and know who is who in family lines "so to speak" for you wound't know if your bird you buy is incestial or not. I personnally would prefer strong bloodlines and a partner l didn't grow up with in the same house as a baby from egg..he..hee ??? |
