| New Budgie |

Well my new budgie is done with her meds and the fecal shows that the fungal infection is gone. Now I just have to wait for my other tests to come back and she will be good to go. I bought some harrisons for her and I was wondering if anyone has some helpful hints about getting her to try it. She is on a seed diet now and I know that she will not go to pellet easily so any hints would be appreiated. I hope to get some pictuers up soon. My computer decided to have a breakdown but now it is working very well and I will try to post some pictures again. |

Hi fp29!
I just saw the pics of Opal & Luna on your homepage & they're both just beautiful!! How long have you had them?
Sorry to hear you were having some problems with Opal, but am so glad it's all been cleared up
What kind of Harrisons did you get, I know they've got a whole range, tho I'm not real familiar with it.
You know, she may take to it right away, you never know til you try, but do ween her off of the seed diet slowly & make sure she's not losing weight in the process. I think there are actually written formulas for precise amts of pellets to mix each day into their present diet. You could probably do a search on the internet, or even check on the diet forum here. But I would just gradually add less amts of the seed diet/add more pellets each week.
Have you looked through the diet forum here? It's a great source of information! |

Hey
I've got ten budgies... and ALL of them will refuse to eat the pellets!! I have tried and tried and now I've just given up trying to convert them... I still give them pellets, but they won't touch it...
I do however make sure that they get fresh veggies.... If you do find a way to convert this fussy little eaters to pellets... please let me know!! LOL...
Cheers

I have had Luna for 3 years and I have had opal for almost two months. I bought the harrisons high potency mash. I hope to get her onto the fine when her beak hardens. When I got her she had a beak deformity. The vet filed it down and it looks great. He said that it should hopefully correct itself and then he won't have to file it anymore, but he also said that it was very soft and fragile right now. |

Well I looked for ways to convert her and I found a few that I hope will work. One way that seemed interesting was to place food on a mirror and then the bird will try to get the food before the other bird in the mirror. If I find anything that works I'll let you know. |

You have such beautiful birdies!
Here are some tips for having your birdies eating other stuff.. I'm sure there is a lot of it which is also helpful for pellets!
http://www.fluffies.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=460
I have also found that they tend to eat other foods more readily when they're in a strange environment: A playgym in another room for example.. (Or a new gym?)
Good luck!
PS Sad to hear about your computer.. Do you know what caused it? |

I don't know what caused the crash but it happens every once in awhile. But now I hope to get more pictures up to show. Both of my birds have quite a personality. Luna knows that he is gorgeous and he is offended if you don't let him know that you think so too. He loves me and is upset if I don't say hi right after comming home. When I get home opal and luna hear me and they both start saying hi. Luna actually says Hi he also says I love you as I walk in the door but little opal just chrips, it is very pretty. I love comming home because I feel so loved. |

I tried the mirror trick and it seems to be working. She is eating pellet now. She is not completely converted yet but she is at least eating the pellet. It sould not take much longer for her to be converted. |

mm, I will have to try that with my Picasso, lately he's taken to only eating my food, picking at his own, maybe if he has to "compete" for his food I might get to eat my dinner in peace |

That's a great idea with the mirror.. But unfortunately that won't work with my budgies I don't think. As it is, they are in the aviary with others already competing for their food and yet they choose to not eat the pellets!!!! Blah... I'll have to see if I can somehow convert them.. hehe.. Thanks though.
I'm glad to read that it is starting to work for you and your baby. Good luck with it..
Take care
