I got a new parakeet today...
But I totally forgot about quarentining him... I just bought him and put him with my other one, without thinking...
I have had budgies for years... and never did this before..... I do not have another cage..
What can I do? I dont have the $ for another cage. |

Hi,
The reason you quarent a bird is not to expose what ever he may have to the other birds. I think that everybody is now exposed to anything that the new bird has. You need to hope that the new bird does not have anything and is heathy, sorry I can be of more help. Just watch them real close for any changes and see your vet as soon as you can to have the new bird checked.

I agree with Jrmno1.. Your birds are now exposed to anything the new bird has.
Chances are that there is nothing to worry about.
Can you monitor your birds' weight with a scale? Usually, weightloss is the first sign of illness. |

I agree with the others! Hopefully, the new member is free of anything that could be transferred. And monitor both birds closely & contact an avian vet at the first sign of possible illness.
It's too late in this case now, but quarantining a new bird is SUCH an important step! Chances are a new bird is healthy, but not a chance that's worth taking, for the well being of the established bird.
Congrats on the new 'keet How are the 2 birds getting along? |

They get along great!...
they are 2 different varieties.... he's fluffy, but not like puffed up, and she's petite and thin...
He started eating last night, the same day i got him. he also is sitting on my finger and if he's out of his cage, he will come and find me...and climb up on my shoulder... and he's only been here for 24 hours. |

Wow, your new fid sure has taken a shine to you I'll cross my fingers and hope that your new feathered family member is healthy and didn't pass anything onto your other bird. Good luck with the little tikes! |
