Well those new photos are really sweet - & the jury is still out on my part. I'm going to throw my hat in the ring at a 'boy'. Very Happy - only because you said the cere is kind of purple & sometimes pink& to balance out Cheeta's guess [although i am doubtful about contradicting an Aussie on Budgies!!!]. Shocked

Normally when the bars on the head are so prominent you want to see a pinker cere if it is a boy.

Guess you'll have to wait until the molt at 4 months. That's when Rio's cere turned the distinctive blue. Cool

I am having some doubts now. From the first pictures I was sure Boo was a he/him. Seeing the new pictures I am not completely sure anymore. But I still think Boo is a male budgie.

after looking at the last three pics, I'm still sticking to a girl theory.

though the second last pic looks a bit either way... but I'm still not convinced that it's a boy!! LOL.

But hey I could be soooo wrong though!! LOL.

I had a girl who looked just like that, thought that she was a he. so now I'm sticking to a girl until I can see for sure... hahaha

Jacqui, I get it wrong all the time!!! LOL... I'm still trying to figure out one of mine, and I've had 'her' since Christmas!! I thought she's a he, but I don't know still... but I'm sure that she's a she because all the boys been flirting with her, including my male tiel!! LOL Gotta be a she!

lol, hello again everyone.
I think Boo is a little girl. I don't know why...but I really think Boo is a she. Her eyes now have a light brown ring around them...that will soon turn grey, maybe? And the cere is still kind of the same color...but more white now. She's still a bit scared of hands...but as soon as i get her out of the cage and on my finger she is such a sweetie!! She knows to step up, and is so good at it. The only thing I am wanting her to do is eat something different than seeds! lol. I've tried some celery and peas/carrots/corn but she doesn't even try it. There's some mandarin orange in there right now...and I thikn shes nibbling on it...hopefully she'll like it! haha

Confused ~ i am as well! - the last 2 shots were very 'girl', but lots of the others said 'boy'. Confused

Just keep posting & enjoying - it really doesn't matter which you have - plenty of females are lots of fun & very loving. Smile

I'd seriously watch out for the dog - my Mom's Border Collie would attack her Tiels in a heart beat - he's so jealous of them he wedges himself between me & the cage when i visit, but he's pretty good when they're free-flighted in the sun room - but he's never in there alone. Dogs & Cats are different & some individuals are exceptional. Some are very accepting of 'off limits' but the cat's [& most dog's] nature is to hunt & the Budgie is very tempting.

Sounds like you have a nice home - my friend from the States also has cats & a dog & 3 birds - they all have a routine, which makes bird out time into cat & dog nap time. Laughing Keep reminding us about your updates,

lol...definately a girl budgie...and a bossy one too!!(Bites soooo hard!)
It's been about 4 months since I've got her.
I've found out tonight she likes a bath(spray bottle) and likes to be dried lightly with the hair dryer..lol. I just turn it on cool and hold it way back and she pretty much falls asleep. Its cute, i'll have to video it one day.

Great progress. Mine would have a heart attack if I tried the hair drier. I've seen others use it effectively but not me.

Boo is definately a female! She is THE sweetest budgie ever! I never ever thought she would be so tame, because when I bought her from the pet store last October she wouldn't even think of coming near me! Now, she is not afraid, and even lets me clips her wings, and I don't even have to wear gloves cuz she doesn't bite! lol, I can't believe she'd turn out this amazing. I have the sweetest video that I will post soon.

Both my lads are free flighted.

If she is as friendly as you say - perhaps you could think about letting her wings grow back. I can't tell you how much fun it is to see them buzzing around & they take such joy in flying. Everyday they make me laugh. I control them by keeping the hall light off - they avoid going down the hall as they really don't like the dark.

Exercise will help with any excess energy & really help with overall health.

I look forward to your updates. All the best.

PS - Just in case. I've been reading a lot about Megabacteria. Make sure you & anyone who touches your bird has washed their hands well. It can be a devastating blow to have your pet get sick this way - it is fatal.
Clean the water bowls with Apple Cider vinegar and even put a bit in the water afterwards - this will help kill any bad bacteria in the bird's gut & aide in digestion.

Yes, I had her wings full grown for the longest time, but once i did let her out and she somehow scraped her nose (cere) on something in my room. I don;t let her go out of my room because of my other pets. But she would always fly away and not come back to me , lol. I just wanted to be able to catch her easier if she flew away from me. Although, she mostly likes to stay in her cage when i open the door, and then i'll just come visit her upclose in there. But yeah, she is getting braver to come out of the cage recently, i'll try to post my video now, lol. And thanks for the warning about the bacteria thing, but I think my bird will be pretty safe because i wash my hands before and after holding her, and nobody else touches her anyways, she'd bite them, haha.

That's interesting - I hope the little one gets tamer - she probably will. With some birds it is harder for them to let their guard down & accept they aren't dinner. I saw big changes in Laker after about 6 months & we were training by then.

We had issues with Laker at first too. Training really helped us. If you compare a trained dog & a untrained one you can see the pleasure it is to be able to tell your dog what you expect rather than verbally going nuts trying to get them to understand human.

It worked the same for Laker. He learned to come by gradually lengthening my distance to him & having him step up. Rewards of millet & lots of praise immediately. Also we trained before big meal times & took away his food an hour before training. This way the treat is a lure. Rio too has just had a breakthrough & is now coming to us when we call him - he learned by us constantly saying 'come' when we invited him to join Laker & us..
