| New Budgie!!! |
|
|
Hello, today I bought my new budgie. I really didn't think I was going to buy one today...even though I had the cage and everything set up already. I was in the mall, and of course HAD to go into pj's pets, lol. So I already thought i knew I didn;t want to buy from there because they didn;t have any baby budgies. But today I walk in and they have soo many babies! I was soo soo excited and knew I wanted to get one. So after the longest time, I picked out one that is kind of turquoise and green, with yellow on its face. It is still very very young because of the black bars running all the way to its nose. I am not sure whether its a boy or girl...but i'm pretty pretty sure its going to be a boy. The cere is kind of turning blue it looks like...but its so hard to tell right now. Anyways, once my camera is charged and everything I will take some pictures, maybe you guys can help me with what it is; a boy or girl. |

Nope, it doesn't have a name yet, poor thing, lol! Soon enough though...as soon as it settles in and I can see its personality, hehe.
I have put some pictures on my homepage so you can look at them. Please let me know whether you think it's a male or a female. |

what a gorgeous girl!!
Well at this stage the photos seem to be showing a girl. that white/creamy ring around it's nares signifies a girl, unless of course the camera flash distorted the bird's true color.
Oh so you are aware, you little baby is a yellowface II blue, which is why it has that aqua colour. Beware that this colour MAY eventually turn more green than aqua.
Hope you come up with a good name for your little one.
I'm sticking to a girl until further photos to say otherwise!!! LOL |

I looked & looked at the photos of your new baby Budgie. Sure is a pretty one - i am partial to the Yellow face! my first Budgie Laker is one too.
After watching my Rio's cere go from pink to blue/white to all blue i can't say for sure if your Budgie is a boy or a girl. Rio had me a tad worried at one point as his cere looked just like your birds'. But his cere was quite pink in the beginning. Girl Budgies have a blue/white cere in the beginning - more white than blue in some cases.
If you check out Rio's development photos on my dairy or home page you may see the 'boy' development. Like Cheeta said the flash might be whitening things a tad. Even today Rio's cere is white around the nostrils - whiter than my older lad Laker, who's nostrils are pale blue but blue for sure & who's cere can change to almost indigo when he's molting or hormonal. |

Congratulations with your new budgie. As stated in your diary, I go opposite of Cheeta and think it is a boy. The camera may lie and possible the color will change with aging, but to me the beak is to much blue. Like all my male budgies I have had.
Most important as you wrote, he has already found his food and water. So your new baby will do alright. |

Yes, this will be quite interesting as to what it turns out to be. As some of you mentioned, the flash might have made the white a bit brighter...because its nose does look a bit different in real light. I have a hard time taking good pictures of this birdy...maybe when it gets brave enough to come out of its cage I can get a good picture or two.
I was also wondering, how long do you think it'll take for it to really calm down and get used to its new house(cage)?? The poor thing came from a small cage of about 15 birds...to one huge one all to itself, lol. I spend lots of time with it and whistle to it lots, but it hasn't made one peep yet! (It was peepin the whole car ride home though! lol) My little puppy has also developed quite an interest for this little one. She'll wait by my door alot and cry cause she wants to see the birdy! I can't have the cage downstairs due to my little curious kitten...who would i'm sure scare the bird even more, lol. Anyways...i'm still waiting on a personality from this little one...as I would like to give it a name soon! |

Another update on my baby:
I was just visiting it and thought I would stick my hand in the cage again so it could get used to it. I can pet it and I'm pretty sure its not scared cause it's not running away. I also partially taught it to step up on my finger!!! lol. I would just put my finger infront of its belly and kind of lifted its toe off the perch at the same time...and when it started to lose balance a bit it stepped onto my finger. I was really happy. It seems like a really calm and nice bird so far |

Nice Going! - see Budgies are quite willing little fellows!
You are lucky to have had such a good response right away. Being alone for a Budgie can be quite an experience [really they get kind of frightened] & he'll look to you a lot for company. If you leave him alone a lot - even for an hour or 2 - please remember to place the cage somewhere where the Kitty can't reach - we ended up placing the cage on top of our book case when we didn't have the bird or bird + cage in the same room as we were. We also ended up with the radio on most of the time - they love music & it will entertain him when you can't.
In the end i feel that a companion for him will be a great thing - once he is tame. Laker our first Budgie is still very tame & loves to spend time with us - even tho we have 2 Budgies now. The new baby is slowly getting tamer - he isn't as tame as he does think Laker is his #1 buddy.
Training more than 1 bird at a time is beyond me - so i have to separate them for any recall or 'come to me' training. Keep up the good work - be patient & offer lots of new experiences to him so he will grow intellectually.. Like a child they need stimulation to be the best they can be. |

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just to let you know I always have my door to my room shut, so my kitty can't ever go in. lol. I don't even think she knows I have a bird yet! But my dog sure does, lol. So, I have decided to name it Boo! I walked in my room to go to bed one night and my dog was on my bed..and her nickname is Bear. So I was like, Hi bear! and then i was like..oh yeah i have a bird now too. So just out of nowhere I was like...Hi Boo! And there was it's name, hehe Also, i thought of my screen name on fluffies...which is budgie_boo....which i really randomly thought of before i even bought my bird! Strange huh?? Boo's cere keeps changing colors too....right now its blue, purple, pink and white...haha! This might take awhile to figure out what it is! |
