Anyone here have their budgies on an all pellet diet (supplemented with fresh fruits/veggies/cooked foods/breads of course). If you feed pellets and seed will the birds really choose the pellets? My CAG and Senegal eat Harrisons. I would love to get the budgies on that diet as well. Anyone had success with that and how long did the conversion take?

I am not familiar with budgies and pelleted diets.. I have heard they can be very stubborn. Would there be any chance that your Sennie can show your budgie how to eat them? |

The only way I could get my little budgie to eat his pellets was to take his seeds out of reach Now I give him a bit of seed in the morning for breakfast, and some seed before he goes to bed During the day he eats his Harrison's. |

Well that's what I was afraid of. If I leave them with both seed and pellets I know what they'll choose. So maybe I'll try giving them some seed morning and night and just leaving pellets in the cage during the day. If only I would just see them eat 1 then I'd know we're making progress.

BTW Sue, they see Pickles eating his all the time. But he prefers the big ones and not the little ones so they could never handle his. But I'll keep at it. |

Yupra,
I've been doing as you suggested. And today finally when I looked in the dish there was a little pellet dust. One of them must have finally tried a little! It wasn't much though so I gave them seed again tonight and they age like they were starving. But at least they've tried them so I'm sticking with this plan and hopefully they'll start eating more. They also did have carrot, broccoli and corn today too. So I won't let them starve to death.

Congratulations! They'll be digging into those pellets in no time I've noticed my little one will sometimes grab a pellet and take it with him as he jumps around his cage, so you might want check the bottom of your cage for dust too |

Bellamy gets Lafeber's budgie pellets along with a small amount of Kaytee Fiesta seed/dried veggies mix in his in-cage dish. He is out with me all day most days and eats budgie portions of my meals/snacks (all healthy & bird safe) off his own small spoon and fork set . He gest a lot of varity.
BTW: if given the choice of just pellets or seed he eats his pellets FIRST. |

Geeze you're lucky!! none of my budgies will touch their pellets.. so I've just given up on giving them pellets. I guess as long as I know that they are getting other supplements for their diets like fresh greens and stuff, I'm happy with them on seeds. |
