I have two parakeets that live in the same cage. I have two swings in the cage but they only seem to be interested in one of them. Often my green bird Charlie gets the swing and Tink, the blue one, will hang upside down from the cage bars over the swing. And she will sleep for most of the night that way! Has anyone experienced this before? It seems weird.
At present my 2 Budgies sleep in separate cages - the baby takes longer to settle down & is the first to start calling in the morning.
At first he would cling to the hanging toy at night - but i recently took it out & replaced it with a home-made perch, from grass stems - he seems to like it just fine & doesn't miss the hanging toy - I think he was just looking to get to the highest spot. When they're together [in Laker's cage] they always try for the highest spot & squabble.
Perhaps you could try a different layout in the cage? I change the layouts every few weeks - some work & some do not. I've seen some really nice 'swings' that are more like a large perch - maybe they could share - if this is what they really want.
However I have seen photos of other people's Budgies & some do sleep in very strange positions that seem not at all restful.
No more sleeping in for me these days. - Laker was so considerate. He'd watch me to see if i was awake before singing in the mornings. Rio calls outhopefully every 15 minutes if he gets no response......
