| Butter eating tiel |
|
|
Does anyone have a tiel that eats butter? My tiel Kacey likes bread and c.rackers but loves both when buttered. Also one time at dinner, my mom had the butter dish on the table. The birds also eat on the table, they have their own food dishes plus eat off our plates. Kacey walked over to the butter dish and proceeded to take bites out of the butter. I never knew that birds would like butter. Are there any other butter loving birds out there? |

Funny you should bring this up... One time I had left the better dish out and uncovered, I went into the kitchen to find Cookie (one of my doves) sitting in it, grease all over her face, and just pigging out on it I couldn't belive it! After that incident I often found her in the kitchen looking for the butter Well she's not a tiel but obviously all birds love butter |

That pic is so funny Shirin!
Funny you should say that Sentiel. I don't have a tiel but when I offered Zazu a small piece of butter to sample (I expected him to reject it) he ate it with gusto! |

I guess birds do love butter. Maybe it helps smooth the food when swallowing? Any other butter birds out there? |

I used to share my buttered toast with Manu every morning, as I know that macaws require more fat in their diets & he loves it. But last time I had Manu in to the avian vet, he was BIG! A bit over weight. Needless to say, I'm no longer sharing my morning toast |

That is cute!! Except for poor Manu being overweight! Poor guy! Did you make him exercise? Cheekie loves to dance to Richard Simmons excerise videos.
Just remember all, too much diary makes birds sick, and be especially careful with cheese, as it can impact their crops and be fatal.

Alex loves Peanut butter, I sit down with a peanut butter sandwich, he will reach over and take a big hunck out of it, and then lick the peanut butter out of the middle before he eats the bread. The others saw this and now guess what. I have learned that if I want to eat a sandwich I don't want to take it in the bird room....

OK, I'll 'fess up to the peanut butter too Not me, but my hubby gives Manu a small piece of his peanut butter toast in the mornings. It started out as hubby trying to get Manu to say "peanut butter". After 3 years, Manu still dont say it!
Anyway, the last time Manu was into the avian vet, a couple of days ago, his weight was back down to normal. We are thinking the tech who weighed him the time before mis-read or mis-calculated the scale the time before. |

Really? cheese can impact crops? I've never heard that they could do that... Though I must say I would never give any birds too big a chunk of cheese to start off with, but it's not because I thought it could cause impacted crop, but rather it is too much fat for birds! |

The cheeses I read about that birds should not eat at all because it could cause bowel obstruction is like gummy cheeses. Such as mozzarella, munster, provalone...
My birds only get very small bites of cheddar or colby cheese only once in a great while.
I try to make sure my birds only eat the correct foods, I want them to stay healthy and happy and safe. |
