| Cute Question |
|
|
As some know....I recently aquired another male cockatiel. I have noticed some interesting, yet very cute behaviors. I am wondering what they mean...or if anybody is owned by a tiel who does this.....
He willl stand with one foot in the air and talk while he opens-and-closes his "fingers"....comparitave to sign-language......
I feel bad, like he is trying to tell me something, or that he is used to getting a certain reaction from it. I talk to him and giggle, but I don't want to hurt his feelings! Especially if he is telling me something awful

That sounds cute
My Papug often stands on one foot while he mumbles to himself but he doesn't usually move his toes.
Hmmm... maybe your tiel was taught to wave by his previous owner? |

I'm going to try to get a video of him and pictures to show how cute it looks Yah, maybe he is waving! He reminds me of someone talking and describing their story with hand gestures |

Most of our birds do this when they want to step up, Get out of thier cage or some of them are waving at us in an attemp to get a treat....But mostly it is a request to setp up... Try placing your fingger in front of them and see if he steps up..

LoL John You know, he is quite a ham & he LOVES attention, as long as you just don't try to handle him.
It's kind of funny ... I have to wonder if that is kind of a 'tiel thing? |

No, I think that each bird is unique. Angel one of our tiels (we got from a pet store) love to be held and handle from day 1 at the pet store. And yet Spike we hand feed her from about 3 week on, the only thing she will do is step up and neck scraches. Anything else get a nip from her..

I don't know about the "tiel thing" though... My Papug loooves to be petted and loooves to snuggle. He is picky with whom though He just snuggles and cuddles with me! |

Actually, what I meant about the "'tiel thing" was the waving motions, not how they like or dislike having contact |

Yes, that is very similar...and sooooo cute!! I loved that video! Walker will be by himself and just start talking and doing that with his claw...it is so cute. I am going to talk to him more and maybe I'll say the right thing to him to spark him to do it on cue..... |

Ooopss... haha... I think it was my fault Cathy, I misunderstood
But Papug doesn't wave. Hmmm... maybe I should teach him because it is very cute |

No, after going back & reading what I wrote, it does sound like I meant that it was a 'tiel thing not to want to have human contact ... I just worded it wrong |
