get Qwilleran to take treats from my hand!!!!
NOTHING!!!
he's pretty tame...
but he was parent raised, and I'm the first human he's really spent any amount of time with....and I tamed him myself...he's not to the point where I can really scratch him and stuff....
but any ideas how I can get him to at least try to get some food from my hands?

Hmmm, doesn't he like the treats out of your hand? Over here, Scuttle isn't very keen on taking treats from my hand either. Try it with your hand flat.. Cool

he's about 1 1/2.....
I've tried everything!!!
if I'm holding even the millet stick-thing....he won't touch it!!
it HAS to be away from my hands.....
Sad
but I don't think it will be the end of the world if he doesn't take treats from me....he has learned his tricks just by being verbally praised....
it would be nice though..... Razz

Just don't give up trying! You know, my tiel Poppy never took anything from my hand for 13 years!! Just recently has he started to. He first ate some pumpkin bread from my hand during the holiday season, then some corn bread, & most recently he is now eating crumbled up fruit treats from my hand - YAY!
So, it can be done & the more persistant you are with it, the sooner!

Oh, it's very easy to over look the obvious some times, isn't it? I do all the time!
I'd give it a try in the early mornings, it may or may not help.

Lynzi, maybe there is something else that he cares for more than sunflower seeds?
Papug - my tiel - loves potatoes, multigrain bread, nachos, soup... He goes nuts when he sees any of the above Laughing

That is so true Cathy. Sometimes you are just too close to the situations that you have to take a few steps back to look at what might be the problem. I do that a lot and John will come by and offer a suggestion and I'll say "why didn't I think of that.....it was right in front of my face". Smile

There are a few other times of the day that they are hungriest.

Our Budgie is hungry at 7am, 10 am, 2pm, 4pm & just before bed. When we are training him we take his food dish away an hour before his hungry time & train just before - giving treats as a reward & finally his food back at the end.

Originally i would snack while reading & keeping my bird company. We'd just hang out together. Curiosity finally got the better of him & he started demanding cookies, apple pie or anything I'm eating. So of course now i have to eat good snacks when I'm around him. This has been a good way to get him to try stuff other than Millet as well.
