PHEW! First things first!!
Take a few s---l---o---w DEEP BREATHS and r---e---l---a---x......
Isn't nature a wonderful thing? Life has so many doors opening
unexpectedly for us when we're least expecting it! I just look at the open door, smile on the inside and acknowledge to myself, "Hey, look! There's an open door!" and then take some time to decide if I want to go through it to walk down a whole new, different, unfamiliar and potentially dangerous but also potentially rewarding pathway.
When you feel calm, you can ask yourself these questions:
1) You haven't told us if you have one male bird and one female bird. Is one of your two birds a male? Or could it be that both birds are female? Female birds can lay eggs even if there isn't a male bird around.
2) Do you know if the egg is fertile or not? Have you heard of candling?
3) Where is the egg currently located? Is there a nestbox or is the egg just lying on the bottom grate? All is not lost yet even if the egg is just lying on top of the bottom grate.
4) How are the birds currently behaving? Is one of them laying on the egg or are they ignoring it? Don't worry too much at this stage if the birds aren't laying on it...sometimes the mom won't start laying on her eggs until a few eggs have been laid.
5) What would you like to do with the egg IF it is fertile? Do you have the time commitment, the energy and the dedication to hatch the egg and raise a new baby bird?
6) If the egg is fertile and you decide to hatch it and raise a new baby bird, what would you want to do with it? Do you have the space, time commitment, energy and dedication to keep three birds together in your home, without reducing the level of care that you already need to provide for your two existing birds?
Let us know what decisions you want to make in regard to the above questions and then people here may be more able to guide you down the path that you choose to take. Please keep us informed! |

Ah! SURPRISE, huh
Sounds like Fruitynutbird had summed things up quite nicely! Don't be surprised if you wake up to more eggs.
Good luck to you! I'll be anxiously awaiting updates |

Ummmm just one thing that seems to have been forgotten...
very important one too....Do you which one of your bird is laying? if you do, make sure that one is getting plenty of calcium right now to supplement for all the calcium that is taken out of their little body to make the egg shell! Cockatiel amongst other problems are also prone to being egg bound! please please give them plenty of calcium now, otherwise it may be fatal to you birdie if she gets egg bound.
Good luck.
Oh, if it's not fertile, you can leave the eggs in the cage until she's bored with it, then you can remove the eggs once the mom has decided she doesn't want it anymore. |

that's ok, leave it for another day, if they still choose to ignore the egg, just take the egg away. That won't be a problem at all if they are ignoring it. Make sure you're giving the girl some calcium to replenish what was used for the first egg. |

Since your birds are female and male.
It is a good chance the egg is fertile.
You can hold it up to a light and see if it is.
Fertile eggs usually have a blue color.
You really need to check the females vent to make sure its not swollen.
That could be signs of being egg bound.
Like the above person said.
Birds take alot of calcium from their body to make the shell of the egg.
So it really wares them out.
Calcium supplements are always good.
As are Cuttle bones. |
