| Help with Tiel |

Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can help me. I know my tiel has learned that if she to chirp and chirp and chirp non-stop I will eventually take her out of her cage or pick her up and place her on my shoulder. She is not happy unless she is on my shoulder. Sometimes she is ok on her perch but prefers to be on my shoulder. I have tried all different kinds of toys for her to play with in her cage or on her perch but she doesn't seem very interested in most of the toys I buy her or maybe I just haven't found any that she likes.
I have tried to ignore her chirps and try to pick her up when she is quiet hoping she would get the idea that I'm not going to pick her up when she chirps constantly but will when she is quiet. Do I need to do more of this and if so how long do I need to do this before she gets the message.
Also, How do I get her to stay where I want her. For example. If I set her on her perch she tries flying over to me (even though she is clipped), flutters to the ground and walks the rest of the way over to me. She will even climb my pant let to get up on me. I want to be able to place her on her perch and have her stay there or wherever I want her to be.
Any suggestions?
Thank you. |

Hmmm it's harder to undo that now, than if you'd not have done this. It will take some time. My vet said 3 times the time length that the other behavior has lasted. The behavior might get worse before it goes away: extinction burst. Please don't give in there, else the behavior will start there every time..
It takes some training to make her sit on spots you want. Put her back every time she comes to you and reward her (with treats) when she's sitting where you want. Also, always 'end' with you picking HER up and taking her back or with you. |

Thanks for the response. I won't give up. |
