Your schedule is fine. One more bird means more to clean and take care of though If that is okay with you, then go for it! |

I say two for sure, ESPECIALLY if you're thinking lovebirds. The only way I'd say it's ok to get a single lovebird is if you're gonna be with him like 12 hours a day, because they really need affection and physical contact all day long, hence the name lovebirds.
Cockatiels, although I don't know if they're needy to the extent of lovebirds, I think any bird in general would be happier to be with a mate of same species, and would not be happy being left alone. You have to keep in mind that although your college hours are not that long, you probably have a life outside of school too, right? Like going out with friends, going shopping, to the gym ect. So think about all those hours your bird would have to sit alone in a cage by himself.
Also cockatiels and lovebirds alike have long lifespans, so think about the future when you're done with college and are working full time and your life gets even busier. Then maybe at that point you'll think maybe I should get him a friend to keep him company while I'm gone, but by then it's usually a lot harder to introduce birds to eachother and expect them to get along. So it's better to just get 2 now, so that whether your life is busy or not, you won't have to worry about your bird being alone and sad. |

Also, if you socialize your bird to be fine alone with his toys, it can work out too. It really depends on the bird though. I don't recommend doing what I did with Robin my Red Bellied, but he just became used to being independent. I was very busy in my life after I got him, and so he went through many years without much interaction from me. I was not real young when I got him, but nonetheless, I was having a social life, and just wasn't as into birds as I am nowdays.
He is the BEST boy. It's like it never phased him, and he remained just as tame and cuddly, but to this day he knows how to be extremely independent. |

Thanks for all the replies... well I think Iīll buy only one cockatiel, even though some recomend 2 I think 1 is better....because like jletaz said they can learn to independent and like any parrot... if they have something to do they will keep themselves busy..plus my mums stays at home almost all day long so she can have the cockatiel out or at least put the cage where she is...
But if I buy a lovebird I might buy 2 because they sound more dependent in another lovebird. but they maybe be less dependent on me and become too independet.... |

I really see the smaller species as doing fine with being independent. Even my Eclectus and Slender Billed Cockatoo are very independent for larger birds, because I made them to be that way, but of course they still require more.
I don't know too much about Lovebirds, but as Shirin says, I have heard that they do better with another of their own species. Shirin has 2 and they remain pet quality for her. I don't know if that's typical? She can tell you more about lovebirds if you are interested in them.
I know that a single Cockatiel will be just fine for you. Just make sure he has plently of interactive toys to keep him busy with.

This is not so As long as you handle the lovebirds everyday and play with them every day, they will love you and bond to you just as much as a single lovebird would. As Julie mentioned, my lovebirds are very tame and they love being with me and cuddling with me. |

In my opinion, Lovebirds are some of the cutest of the small parrots. Their little faces are just SO adorable. So many different fun color mutations to choose from too I've seen some of the whitefaced violet ones that are gorgeous. I've always thought of Lovebirds as nippy, but isn't it the females who are more that way than the males? I like the cute white eyering of the masked Lovebirds, but I've heard the Peachfaced make better handleable pets. |

They are sooooo cute, and I always wanted one
Yes lovebirds do tend to be nippy, and the females more so. My Pistachio is a little nippy sometimes, but Hazelnut is not at all. |

Thanks for the links to the pics... That little white eyering is adorable. I didn't know there were 2 different shades of the blue black masked ones like in the picture? That is my favorite color too... |

I know! The white eyering is just too cute. And I love the mask, if I had one I would name him Bandit or something like that I once held one of those blue babies at a petstore, and it was sooooo hard putting him down and walking away |

Hi Blueparadise... so you are pretty much set on either Lovebird or Cockatiel?
Tough decision! Both have their pros and cons. Which species are you thinking more about? Are they equally as easy to find in Brazil?
Let us know soon as you make up your mind! |

Hi guys...
Yes, its hard to choose shirin.. well I probably be getting them next week... yes jiletaz they are the pretty easy to find .. the other parrots are not that dificult for me to find, because living in the big city and one of the biggest breeder in Brasil is not too far away from where I live about a 30 min drive but the price ..but they take really good care they have really tame parrots of all types..well Iīm thinking in Cockatiels the most... really like the white face pearl.... but maybe I can get a pair of lovies also so they can be friends for the cockatiel |
