I gatta couple 'Teil questions....  Reply with quote

ok wheever Petra is on her cage after a while hell like do this thing with his beak were it looks like Hes Yawning but he does it constantly and no sound comes from him. When i first seen him do it a couple weeks ago i thought he was yawning and didnt think anything of it, then a while after that he did it again and i thought maybe he was trying to say something then he did it again last night but my mom seen him doing it first and thaught he was choking and started freaking out but when she got near him he stopped.
I dont know if its normal or not. and Petra is about 1 yrs and 6 months old, when does he hit maturity?

I know exactly what you mean, my tiel does this same thing too once in awhile. I really don't know if it is actually yawning or not, but that's what I call it Laughing

I'm glad to hear it Very Happy
I don't know if you're aware of it, but the new one should be quarantined for a period of at least 35 days before being exposed to Petra. My avian vet recommends a period of 6 weeks.

Smile About the yawning, all birds do it. The first time I saw Maxi doing it when we first got him I freaked. Then I read in a book that birds do it to take in extra oxygen into their lungs. It is like when we yawn and take in more air. So birds do yawn too. Rolling Eyes
