I think my Qwillie-boy is scared of the dark...every time I cover his cage at night, he just panics and starts flapping! so I just leave the top covered... and the bottom open so a little light leaks through....
I just thought it's kind of sad
poor Qwillie...

Hmmm it could be that he's manipulating you by the flapping he does.. Do you reassure him?
You can try to make a game out of it?? (During the day?) And reward him if he stays still?
Is the room very dark? Else he might not need a cover? |

ya it's pretty dark.....I have black curtains, and I'm in the basement....
I've tried leaving him without the cover....but he still does it....so I just go make sure he's not hurting himself....then he stops....
he probably is just manipulating me......
that lil bugger....

It's very common for 'tiels to suffer from night frights, displaying just the behaviour you've described.
I cover Poppys cage, leaving just a bit at the bottom of his cage uncovered & that seems to keep him from being frightened thru the nite. It may take a bit of experimenting to find just the right combination of background lighting & darkness. |

Berto had a night fright the other night (the rain here was really loud and it woke him up) so I did a little research. It would probably be best to leave a dim light on for your 'tiel at night so he doesn't hurt himself in his cage.
Good luck!
