Is my little bird plucking?  Reply with quote

This may sound silly but over the past few weeks I have found feathers on the bottom of my birds cage. But they are not just the little small soft ones, they are like main big feathers with colours and stuff. This is the silly part: Do they molt as such? We have chickens (completely different I know) and every year they loose loads of feathers and re-grow them again. But I didn't know if parrots did this sort of thing or not. The other thing I thought it could be was maybe the central heating? As it is starting to get cold we have it on more, but I know this dries out their feathers, didn't know if it would cause them to fall out? Or the other option (really hope it's not this), is he feather plucking? I keep changing his toys and everything to keep him from getting bored but he only seems to like two of the toys I have for him. Can anyone help me out here? I am really worried that he is feather plucking. Sad

This is a sort of side note. My other parrot keeps coughing, but I think she is just imitating a human cough (we all had colds recently). Does a parrot cough sound like a human cough (another silly question I know)?

They moult, how often depends on the bird.
And some birds make those noises if they're washing themselves, otherwise she could be imitating. But if she seems off colour get her checked out Smile

Phew, well that's a huge relief. I was so worried. You know how it is, something tiny happens and you start going into panic mode thinking anything and everything is wrong with them. Laughing . No she's not off colour so I guess she is just imitating. Well thanks for that, I will sleep tonight. Very Happy
