Thanks Haley. I just feel sooooo bad for little Kacey. The wing just looks sooooooo awwwwww ful. Its got to hurt her. She ate dinner tonite, chicken, baked potatoe and a few bites of green bean. She also got the hang of eating with the collar on and to drink water. I'm not going to let her sleep in her cage, she can't get around with the collar on. I fashioned a spot in one of our laundry baskets. I put down a soft towel on the bottom, a shallow dish with water to drink and a plate of food for her to eat. I will place her pet tent in the basket for her to sleep in. I then will cover it with a dark blanket so she will sleep and can't get out of the basket. Its going to be a long week with the collar on. She just looks soooo pathetic. |

Thanks Sue I will. We have to keep a close watch on Kacey to make sure she doesn't fall and also make sure she is eating enough and drinking. She can't afford to loose more weight. She has adjusted a bit better today with the collar, she isn't fighting it as much. Her wing on the other hand is going to be along time before it looks anything like a decent wing. It is really messed up. |

3-2-07 Vet Visit Update:
Kacey's visit to the vet was a good one. First she didn't yell at the vet and she behaved. Vet was much happier with the progress of healing of the wing. The swelling is decreasing slowly and new pin feathers are starting to come in. She has dropped in weight, now at 88grms, vet says it is due to all the stress she has undergaone. She is eating up a storm though. Her wing when healed will not be pretty, but at least she will have her wing. She still has to wear the collar to protect her from getting at the healing areas of the wing. She can reach and preen the tips of the feathers. I am just so happy she is doing better. Next appt is same time next week. |

I will soon be updating Kacey's diary page about her wing problems. She had her last vet visit on May 11th. We are going to let the lump alone on her wing. It isn't bothering her for now and it is a solid lump now. Vet said it would be too dangerous to try and cut it out where its at and anesthesia isn't very safe on small birds. If the swelling of the lump becomes worse and splits the skin, the only option then would be to amputate the wing. We are hoping it doesn't come to that. Kacey is feeling much better and has been very perky. Her weight has gone up to 87.5 grms so far. The vet will continue to monitor her wing lump when in for her tri annual vet visits/nail trims. We aren't trimming her wings anymore since she will never be able to fly.
I will start updating diary pages next week when I will officially be done with school! Yeah!!! |

Thanks Shirin. I've been very busy with finals, got one more this Friday and then I am so done. Then I can catch up on all my favorite things, Fluffies being the number one, pleasure reading second and just resting my brain. lol Can't wait to get back into the swing of things. How have you done with finals? Are you taking the summer off or taking a summer class. How did your cornell birds class go? Will be talking to you soon.

Ah, I figured you were really busy Good luck on your final exam on Friday! I'm sure you will do great!
I finished my semester in April, and all my exams went well. The only thing I was worried about was one of my essays, I finished it 2 days late, and it was half the length it was supposed to be, and I couldn't believe it when I got it back and I'd gotten a B+!!!! For some reason all of my profs really like my writing I would have gotten an A if I hadn't handed it in late, cuz they take off 5% per day.
My ornithology class, I ended up with a B+ as well, I got an A in the lab portion, and a B in the lecture portion. I loooved that class so much, I'm so sad it's over My professor was on the radio the other day taking phone calls and answering questions about migratory and back yard birds
Yes, I'm taking a summer course, but it's only on Thursday and Fridays, so not so bad
Ok, good luck again, I can't wait to hear how you did |

Hi Shirin, well I am done with school. I got an "A" in all 3 of my classes. Now I just have to get a job doing MRI and I have to perform so many different types of exams before I can take the registry exam to become officially registered. There is no set time on when you have to take the test. It is a long exam over 4 hours to complete. There is a lot to review, some techs I know waited 4 years before they took their registry exam. I hear its really hard. That will be the last test I will ever take. This weekend I will work on some diary pages. We are having a B-Day party for Kacey this weekend, believe it or not, she finally turns 2 yrs old. I never thought she would make it. Its been a rough 2 yrs for Kacey. She deserves a special party for all she has endured and gotten through.
Congrats on all your good grades also. I know how tough your classes were. Great job. Don't burn out this summer on school, remember to have some fun.
Have a great weekend,
Teri |

Wow! Awsome! You did such a great jon on all your exams! Can you start working as an MRI tech before you take the registry exam?
Aaw, happy birthday to little Kacey! Give her a little kiss for me. She sure has been through a lot, but she's been a tough little cookie. I hope the two of you share many more years together, you have lots of time to make up for the rough times
Don't forget to take lots of photos of the birthday party! |

We had a small family dinner party with strawberry torte cake. kacey had meatloaf and green beans and mashed potatoes for dinner. She ate good and was very active. I can't believe how active she has been lately. I am real happy for her. The lump is still the same size. no change and her weight is holding. She has been so active that she is burning up the calories, she needs to gain some more weight. I keep checking the muscle along side the keel bone and she is still on the thin side. She is eating a lot but still not enough to put on more weight. Is there something that would help her to put on some weight? She needs to at least be in the 90's. |

Teri, I'm so glad to hear that Kacey is coming along nicely at the moment. She has had such a tough little life. I'm so glad though she has a wonderful mommy to look after her and take care of all her needs.
Happy belated birthday to the little girl. Sounds like she had a great day!!
And a big congrats on finishing your MRI course. and good luck with all the little exams and the big registry exam whenever you take them.
Take care. Can't wait to see some new pics. |

cheeta, I did make some diary pages of maxi and kacey. I still have more to make. I need to do some more resizing of all the pics I took and work on diary page for pepper. I will work on them this weekend. My computer has been acting up lately.
Thank you for all the well wishes for Kacey. You should see her now. She is very active and playing a lot and getting into mischief. She still needs to gain weight though. She is acting like a totally different bird now. |

oh, I'll have to check out the pages in a sec.
Kacey seems to be a bigger tiel if she has to gain more weight. Well that's according to all the stats I've read about tiels in the US anyway... I've heard that their average weight was about 80? I personally don't know, but my parents tiels is around the 100g mark. I've always thought that 80 average was a bit small in size.
Well I'm glad to hear that Kacey's is getting up to no good already.. that means that she's definitely on the mend... LOL... what a girl.. and strong girl too. |

Yes, Cheeta, Kacey is a very strong willed girl. I am just so glad that she is back to her playful perky self. She has been practicing flapping her wings to gat her muscles stronger. She cannot extent that right wing out though since it was broken. It didnot heal very good. Also Kacey is a bigger tiel, Maxi on the other hand is a smaller tiel so he doesn't weigh much, his average weight is about 80 grms. I have seen very large tiels at the bird fair. I guess its how you breed them and their genetics. |
