Yes Sue, John and Carrie sent a real nice special homemade treat gift for Kacey. It was a wonderful surprise. It was a toy made with cheerios to snack on. The card they made was absolutely beautiful also. I'll have to try and get a picture of it and post it on Kacey's diary page. They are so thoughtful. |

Lynzie, her playdate at the vets is this friday Feb 9th. Keep your fingers crossed that her wing is strong enough to go without a cast on it.
She is finally done with her meds, Yeah!!!!!
Will update again after her vet visit. |

Hoping the appointment on Friday goes well. It would be really great if she could get by without the cast. Good luck Kacey.

Vet Appt Update: 2-10-07
Kacey was to spend the morning at the vet's office, but she only lasted 1 hour there. The wing looks good, it is healed and stable. The problem was that Kacey went crazy when preening the outside of her wing. She went so hard at it she was making it bleed, so the vet had to wrapp the wing to protect it. She is wearing a yellow wrap on her wing. She goes back next Friday Feb 16th at 9am for another morning of being watched by the vet. Hopefully she will last longer than an hour. Vet said it may take time for her to get used to being without the cast and wrap.
On another note; my computer is froze up and won't let me type on it. i can now access my e-mail, read it and delete it when done but I can't answer it. I need to get in touch with Dell to find out the problem now. It was working perfectly on Tuesday Feb 7th, then on Wed it wasn't. My internet connection; Comcast changed their homepage format again which was part of the problem. Got any ideas let me know.
Otherwise I will be checking my e-mails while at work when not busy.
Thanks Teri |

Oh my! Sorry to hear your computers causing you some grief - hope it's fixed soon!
On the other note, I'm SO glad to hear that Kaceys wing is healed & stable! That's
wonderful news
You know, my grand daughter has been in a cast too, for several weeks now, & I can just imagine how she is going to feel when it is finally removed! I'm sure that's gotta feel SO wierd!
I've never gone through this experience with a bird in a cast before, & while I'm very sorry it had to be sweet little Kacey, I'm so glad you have taken the time to share the experience with us. |

Sorry for the late vet visit updates:
Last week 2-16-07 vet visit; Kacey was at the vets for 1 1/2 hrs this time before she went after her wing and the vet had to wrap it again. She just won't be gentle with her wing.
2-22-07 vet visit update: Well Kacey got the wrap off her wing and she is now sporting a neck collar to keep her from getting at her wing. Vet wants it to air out so can heal better. The bone itself is healed but the skin around the area is irratated and needs to heal. She cleaned up the wing so the feathers were still a bit wet, I can't believe how bad the wing looks. I hope it looks better when the feathers are dried. I just feel so bad for little Kacey, she has been thru sooo much. Now she has to deal with the collar, which she absolutey hates and has been trying to get off. We have to make sure she can still eat with the collar on but also not be able to get at her wing. Vet reminded us that we still aren't out of the woods yet as to wheather the wing may still need to be amputated., it will just depend on how it heals and how Kacey does with it. I know by looking at it she will never be able to fly, there was just too much damage. She is resting in her pet tent now in my room next to me. We have to watch her so she doesn't bump her wing and that she doesn't fall and hurt herslf, especially with the collar on. Her weight is still 91grms, she had lost weight at her last visit. She has been eating but not like she is used to. Next vet visit to recheck wing progress is March 2cd, a Friday at 9:00am.

Papug, she can only stretch the wing up but not outward for a full wing spread. Right now she is trying to deal with the collar and trying to eat. Hopefully she will get the hang of eating with the collar on. |

It's good that she has some range of motion even now. I bet she has some muscle contractions from being in the cast and wrapped up. Kacey will need some physio when she is up to it
You know, I can't even imagine how she manages with that wing... When I look at my Papug's wings, they seem to be so delicate...
I was just wondering... would it be possible to wear the collar the other way around? She could eat, but it would still prevent her from reaching her wing? |

I try to get it to go the other way but it keeps flipping back the same way, cones out from her head. Since a cockatiel has such a small neck, the Vet fashioned it from a piece of x-ray film. They don't really make collars for such small birds. We will just have to keep a close watch on her eating. We will make sure that she eats and drinks no matter what. I don't want her loosing any more weight. |
