My Bird Sammy Boy or Girl?

I found an exact picture of what my bird looks like.
We were told he was a boy, my guess he is now almost 1 year old.
Going by this picture... do you all think this is a male bird?

Sammy does not whistle as much as we'd like, he has a lound call which he uses when he first hears or sees us in the morning and also when he hears the front door opening after we've been out all day.
I've only heard him once or twice do a little quiet whistling - some say they dont reallly start whistling regularly until they are over 1 year old. - Or is Sammy really a femal ?

I would guess it is a male, because of the really bright cheek patches.
