I am proud to announce the official adoption of "Kozmo"! I picked him up at 4 this afternoon and am already completely head over heals in love with this little ball of fluff.
I was able to chat more with his foster mom and get the back story on him. He was a petsmart purchase and belonged to a couple who really loved him. They made the difficult decision to surrender him to a rescue when they had a baby and realised he was being neglected. So he was defnitly one of the lucky ones...and I think it says alot about his old owners character that they sought out a good rescue instead of just abandoning him or selling him in the paper etc etc.
He is very people oriented and extremely friendly. He hopped right on my finger at his foster house! He is also apparently very possesive..I had to put him back in his cage so that his foster mom could show me how to do a wing clip on one of the other birds that needed it and he flipped out. When I went to get him back out he was pouting and wouldn't turn to look at me for a good 5 minutes..good thing he will be an only birdy. The rescue said that he was a "closet talker" meaning that he only talked when no one was around..but since I've had him home he has been chatting up a storm...apparently he thinks he is a very pretty bird.
I had planned to give him a couple days to get oriented before I really started handling him..but he was positively begging to come out of his cage. So we spent the evening cuddling on my bed. The rescue also said he did not like to be petted...but after about an hour (and a little spray millet) he started rubbing his head against my finger. When i started scritching he turned his head, closed his eyes, and if tiels could smile I would swear he was smiling! Afterwards he climbed up my chest and started preening my hair!
He has just the sweetest voice ever..very soft. And he whistles for me every time I leave the room... I am so wrapped around his little talons!
He came with the name "Kozmo" which I had originally wanted to change (I had a horse in college named "Cosmo"....so named because I had kept myself awake the night she was born reading trashy articles in cosmo magazine) but....now that I have him I think Kozmo really is the right name for him..so Kozmo it is

a big big congrats on the homecoming of little gorgeous Kozmo!!! He's a real charmer from the look of his pics.
What an angel he is. and man it sounds like he's found the right mommy from all the things that he didn't used to do, but now is jumping right in.. like chatting and being cuddled!! I truely believe in having the right bird and he sounds like he's definitely found the right human to be with!
A big congrats again, and hope to hear more about him, and definitely more pics!!! |
