| Petra home without me... |
|
|
So me and Petra took a plane to live with my parents, we flew from fl. to ma., and we have been there about 2 months now and i was asked to fly up to va. to help my moms friend with her kid so i agreed but with one problem... Petra couldnt go . I felt so lonely on the lane without him and so i called everyday to se how he was doing and he was ok like the first 2 days then he started becoming depressed. he was eating fine but he was biting and attacking everyone (thats not like him). my mom finally had me talk to him through the phone and she seid he got really excited then.
Se ive cared for Petra since he was 6 weeks old and we've never been seporated for more than 2 days so im flying back to ma. tomarrow to se him... i cant wait to se his reaction. Ive been in va. for about 2 weeks now and i was thinking of moving her so if i had decited to move here i would have flown back up to ma. to pick Petra up, but since he cant go 2 weeks without me iv decited not to (who knows what would happen to him during the 3 weeks).

WOW!! I gatta be the most shoked bird-mommy there is to know.... so I got home around 12:30pm yesterday and like when I walked through the door Petra didnt se me but he new it was me and started wistling. Then when I went into the livingroom (were his cage is) he just sorta perked his head up but didnt make a noise.
So I went up to the cage and kissed him through the bars and he kissed me back, then first I went to put my laggage down (in the home office) and went back to the living room to let Petra out of her cage so I could like give her attention properly. First he wouldnt come out of the cage unless I held his friend (the mirror).. so after a few tries I finaly got him out, I put the mirror down and he gave me a long sloppy sounding kiss and that was it. He just wanted to sit on his cage and stare at everybody.
Im so shocked that after all that waiting and missing that he just gives me a kiss and goes back to his normal self.....

You really had me going - you also had yourself going too! Pets can be like that - really upset you're not there & then all relaxed when you are.
However i think you were the one who really suffered. Petra is very cute, as seen from all your photos. Is Petra a boy? He looks like my Mom's male tiel Mo. Boy tiels can get very attached to their mate - which in this case is probably you.
Hope you get a chance to settle down in one spot soon & can have your birds with you. Let us know how your return changes Petra's behavior - I'm sure your Mom can tell you. Did he get 'out of the cage' time when you were away? That's my greatest concern when or if we go on holiday - whether or not Laker will be allowed flying time.
All the best, Jac |

yea Petra is a male... theres a story behind his name. and yea i am his "mate", i was actually more concerned about him plucking his feathers while i was away. And yea my mom gave him plenty of time out of the cage while i was away... we have to be careful though because our cat (king tut) he can be very tricky... like one minute he could be acting like petras best friend and likeing and cuddling up to his and the next minute he could be eating him. Needless to say i dont trust the cat at all. |

I understand - we had a cat - who we all loved a lot - she was pretty good with the Budgie - but really it would be expecting her to go completely non-cat to ignore the 2 of them together. I almost always had my hand on her back. She didn't mind as it meant extra attention.
But a Teil would give a good bite if he had too. Trouble with cats is their saliva/bacteria is so nasty for the bird. |

yea i read something about cat suliva and birds... like if a cat were to bite/scratch a bird and you were to fix the injury the cats suliva alone can kill the bird. I used to rehabilitate and care for wild baby birds and i was working with a baby sea-gull a couple years ago and my cat managed to slip his paw through the bars (idk how, 1/2 inch) and scratched him, the sea-gull didnt make it. So im very cosause about the cat being near Petra.
