Hello all, I've been enjoying the Cockatoo form and found this forum. We have several birds and 3 of them share a room. Two are Sun Conures and 1 a Teil. Freddie (Sun) came to us first a yr ago at 2 yrs of age. We brought Elvis (Teil) home 4 months later at only 3 months old. Then we got Sprinkles (Sun) 4 months old. Well, Elvis has fallen in love with Sprinkles. He's dancing, singing and puffing wings around her most of the day. This might be silly but can anything come from this? I know Sprinkles is too young but getting older every day. Also, we know Elvis is male, so can we asume Sprinkles is female? Maybe Freddie male since Elvis is not interested in "him"? They sure are sweet together even tho Sprinkles is not interested.

I had a similar question for my breeder when I brought Piper home. My older male Soleil, took an interest in her and I was worried that his attempts to breed her might be stressful while she was still so young. I was told it was no biggie. That they'd "practice" until she was old enough, and that she'd let him know if she wasn't interested. Soleil turned out to be right about Piper's gender, but according to my vet, it's not always a sure thing. He said that he's seen odd behavior from both genders and that you can't assume anything until their colors tell you, or someone lays an egg. I have one female tiel that dances, displays and sings like a male, but at least by her coloration, is most certainly a female. She's slowly quieting down, but it was a bit odd at first.
As to them being different breeds, that I'm not sure about. I only have tiels myself. |

That photo is just sooo cute! I don't think you can assume that Sprinkles is female. Iago & Flit are both males, and Iago totally adores Flit! |

We are thinking the same but was hoping for a hint. It doesn't matter enough to have DNA done. They are our babies and really want to keep it that way. It is so cute to watch tho. Thanks for the inputs!! |

We adopted Simon a few months ago to give Elvis a buddy but so far he still chases Sprinkles around even tho Freddie and Sprinkles just finished laying eggs. Guess that puppy love is still strong!
