| Adopting A Sulfur With Baggage |

G'day guys,
I joined here ages ago but haven't posted much. I live in Australia and I own one bird - a green cheeked conure called Archie who I love love LOVE!
My mate's dad owns a sulfur crested cockatoo, but unfortunately he works in Vietnam for much of the year so the 'too (Charlie) is 'looked after' by my mate and his mum. He is around 26 or 27, is fed 100% black sunflower seeds and is kept in his small cage all day every day. As a result he plucks, and has a neck cone, and is very antisocial indeed - screaming and biting.
It breaks my heart to see him like that and I have offered to take him. At the very least I will be able to give him a better diet and a loving environment even if I can't turn him into a nicer bird..
So far the info I have gleaned is to change his diet but other than that leave him be for a few weeks to get used to me and his new environment (may buy him a larger cage). I will also get his wings clipped so I can let him out of the cage without fear of him flying off.
Anyway I am after any and all advice on what to do with this poor bloke, I certainly hope to give him a better shot at life.
Cheers
Phil |

Hi Phil
oh poor too. take him to look after him, he deserves a better live then he has now. that is for sure.
his diet needs to be changes urgently. give him time to get used to you and be patient. you might have a chance to change his behaviour. it will cost you a bit i guess but there is a possibility.
a bigger cage will help, and maybe the company of your bird close as well.
give it a try.
maybe he likes to come out of it once he is clipped. a new world for him.
