Went to our appointment on thursday, everything went well, he taught me how to give her feeding and how often to do so based on her behavior. However, this is now the least of my problems. I just got home from the emergency clinic, (it's 4:30 am) Valentine had somehow gotten her foot lodged it the loop that attached her cozy hut to the cage (I check her toys daily for dangers and it looked fine this morning) and chewed off all of her toes in a matter of a few minutes. The vet said depending on how well she heals, she may have to have the foot amputated. She's doing good. She's on antibiotics and pain medication. I just don't understand how this could have happened so fast. I had just checked on her, and I was in the next room putting some things away on the shelf right where she could see me and she didn't cry out for help once. I turned around, and it looked like she was hanging on to it acting silly like she always does, but she was actually struggling to free herself, I walked over to talk to her and noticed the blood on her foot and nearly panicked. I took the cozy hut down and cut the loop away from her and rushed her to the clinic. It couldn't have been 5 minutes at most since I had checked on her. The vet said since she is so young that it will be easy for her to adjust to it and she should do fine. I can't remember the last time I cried so much. |

oh that is so scary!! I had a similar thing happen with one ofm y cockatiels, before I knew better I hung a toy wi th Yarn and got home and he was tangled in it. Thank God I didn't have to do anything other then cut the yarn off.
I am sure your bird will be fine. I will say a bunch of prayers for him. I know they work.
And if the legg has to be amputated, he/she will adjust well since they are younge.

I don't have a problem with e-mail, but I don't want to publicly post it up. Is there a way to exchange privately? |

Update:
Valentine has her appointment to check on her foot on friday, we'll find out then if she needs an amputation. She's doing well though. She's acting a little more like herself and getting around better a bit every day. I hold high hopes for her. |

Val's vet said that she'll most likely keep the rest of her foot, we just have to go back twice a week until it heals for bandage changes and check ups. |
