Cockatoo behavior  Reply with quote

I was just wondering if any of you have cockatoos that are mature.
Did you notice any differences when they matured?
Were they more difficult to handle when they matured than when they were youngsters?

Good question, lets see. My M2 ,Sammie, we got when she was seven weeks old,she is now six years old and I quess so far the only thing that has changed is she started snapping her feathers about two years ago. As she got older her preening got more agressive. She never grew up knowing she was a bird. I feel bad about that, but so far she hasn't gone through any of the typical nasty teenage attitudes. She's still a wonderful bird with everyone. We have noticed that she is a little more vocal, more independent and a little more stubborn. Sambird, my MSC2, we adopted this past summer and she is 14 years old. She is alittle more unpredictable but still very lovable. The only thing we noticed about her is she is much more sexual, if you know what I mean, especially toward men. We just ignore this behavior and she eventually calms down. She's got a thing for my teenage boys but they are cute. LOL Karen

The one rosebreast that I have is almost three and he is more aggressive than the two year old female but I can't really tell on him because I got him as a two year old but they tend to be on the nippy side anyways because in the wild they cummunicate this way with each other. I do notice that he is more alert and protective of his surroundings in the year that I've had him. I'm hoping this will be as far as it goes as he matures more.....I'll keep my fingers crossed anyways.lol Pam

Zazu became sweeter as he matured.. He DID develop plucking behavior.. Sad

Zazu used to be unfriendly to other people but now he is improving on that!
