Cockatoo seminar  Reply with quote

Today, the owner of a local bird store gave a talk all about Cockatoos, and people asked questions. It was in a nice outdoor setting. There was also food and a raffle. Quite a few people brought their birds.
I was wondering which was going to be the most popular species, though I figured it would be the Goffin's or U2... most people in the US have Umbrella or Goffin's Cockatoos, and there was a pretty even number of each of them. All Cockatoos are cute, but those Goffin's have such a little baby look to them... so adorable!

Also Starion had a new cage delivered today... 29x46 and 210 lbs, though it feels like 500 lbs! Shocked I thought I was going to be able to put it together by myself, but it looks like I need another set of hands. You have to assemble the cage, then LIFT it onto the base! Surprised

It was interesting, but I didn't take Starion. It is sad, but I try not to take her to places where other birds are because of risk of disease, even though it's unlikely.

It is a King's #405 cage with a playtop Smile

I can totally understand why you would be cautious about it. I most likely wouldn't take any of my birds to outings like those. but I'd definitely go myself! Smile

I'll have to look up the type of cage it is. I wish we have a wider selections of cages here in Australia.. it really sucks owning birds here.. We dont get a whole lot of choices here for anything to do with birds. Sad

King's cages are made in Europe. They are a well known cage in the US, and known as one of the best made brands (and expensive) though I got a good deal Smile

I am waiting for an answer from the company though. The cage is supposed to be 29x46, but the side panels are 28 inches, not 29 so they don't fit the base! Mad From what I've seen, they don't have any models that fit a 28 inch panel, so I don't know what's up with that, or how it's supposed to work. I just want to put it together already! Evil or Very Mad

I'm wondering about the measurement... funny how it's not the same as the base... I hope you get it figure out.

I figured it out Embarassed I was sitting and thinking about it, and it came to me what I was doing wrong. I will have to try it tomorrow (it's night now), but I think it will work.

hehehe, let me guess you put the panel on the other two front and back pieces rather than in between it? I hope that made sense. Very Happy but still it would only make the cage itself only 28' deep. Sad

There are 4 pegs on the base... 2 back pegs are to sit the back panel on, and 2 pegs are to sit the front panel on. You bolt the side panels onto the front and back, so 28 inches, plus 1/2 inch of the back and front panels make the whole thing 29 inches deep all together. Since the side panels also have those holes on the bottom, I was putting the sides on one of the pegs, so it wouldn't reach the back panel. DUH Embarassed What was I thinking??! Now when I realized it, it seemed like such a simple thing that I am surprised I didn't realize it then. I have been stressed out lately, and it's at those times my cognitive abilities go right out the window! Laughing Did I redeem myself by catching the mistake?!
