Hi eatbayray.. I really don't know the cost of a mm2 or LSC2 in Australia.. But I think Cheeta, Greg, and other Aussies can help you here.
Do you think of adopting a too? |

Tame babies start at around $100 for a sulfur crested and go up around several thousand for the black and rarer birds, there is a bit of controversy over the sulfur crested because a lot of them are not pure bred rather have a mixed background and breeders hoping to keep the pure bloodline check the history of their breeding stock, so a pure lesser or greater would be dearer than a mix. |

Hey there Eatbayray...
I'm not sure if it'll be the same where you are with the cost, but the Major Mitchell, a hand reared baby here cost from $250 upwards to $600 - $700 dollars. As with the Lesser Sulphur, they are not native to Australia, so if you want one, you'll need to look into importing one from overseas, and you'll also need to check all the legal side of things to make sure that you can import them where you're at. I know that in Western Australia, it is illegal to import any exotic cockatoo into WA. But different states have different state's law, so you'll have to look into that one too. It certainly isn't cheap to import one of those guys!!!!
However a greater sulphur crested, the ones that's pretty big, a hand reared baby in WA, can cost from anything $200 to to $1000 pending on how pure they are like Shell said. |

Hey Eatbayray
I hate to do this, but the list that you posted only showed the greater sulphur crested, not the lesser sulphur crested.
The scientific name for the LSC is cacatua sulphurea... it has six subspecies... C.S. Abbotti (Abbotti), djampeana, C.S Parvula (Timors), C.S. Citroncristata (Citrons), C.S. Sulphurea (Lesser), C.S. Occidentalis (Cccidentalis). All of these are natives to the Indonesian islands, not Australia.
The great sulphur has the scientific name cacatua galerita has four sub-subspecies of which only one is native to Australia which is the cacatua galerita galerita which is greater sulphur crested. the other three.... CG eleonora, CG fitzroyi, CG tritons are all natives of Indonesia as well. |

If your looking for avary birds not tame ones try the RSPCA. In Sydney they have cockatoos for $5 each at one of their shelters, I don't think they would be tame but I'm going there today to look at adopting a kitten for my youngest son so I'll ask about them. |

I have just contacted the breeder of my eclectus (yesterday actually) and he sells Sulfer crested 'toos for $500, Major Mitchells for $500 and Rose breasted 'toos (galahs) for $400. I can't remember what he sells corellas for. This is handraised and the vet I took my ekkie to said her breeder spends a lot of time handraising his babies and has very healthy birds. The vet I take Skye too is the same vet that her breeder takes his birds too. I live in Central Queensland, in Australia.

I asked the breeder about the LSC 'toos and he told me they are from Indonesia (I think - not Australian anyway) and they can cost around $25,000 a pair That sort of changed my mind on them. Maybe when I win gold lotto I also looked into the Australian eclectus (as I have a female Red sided ekkie) but they are about $7000 (I think for a pair).

Hey eatbayray, I think while you are young is a good time to get a too, he will be a life long companion, just be sure he's been tested for beak and feather disease, a lot more of them are being affected now and some pet stores will not even carry them for this reason, there are a lot of different types each with their own personalities so you should be able to find one you like at a good price. |

WOW! Here in the states it costs an average $1,500 for a LSC! I guess that's the price you'll pay for a bird that isn't native to your country. I don't think we have ANY parrots native to our country. That's why we pay heafty prices on parrots. Greys cost the same. Conures about $600. |

Chaquita's mom,
The LSC as you know aren't natives to Australia, and they are even illegal to keep here in Western Australia (State), and they are so rare even in the states that allows entry. As far as I know, I think it is now illegal to import any birds of any species... I am pretty sure that is correct, correct me if I'm wrong though. So as you can see why they are so very expensive over there. I guess it's like the black cockatoos where you're at, I'm not sure how much they cost, but I do know that they cost a bundle oversea, and it's around $2000 here for a handreared one. |
