first time cockatoo!!  Reply with quote

Hello.
İ have recently purchased a cockatoo. He is apparently 4 years old and he is lovely.
However he doesn't make any noise. Sometimes he will make a few screams if i am out of the room. However, he doesn't make any noise when i am next to him. İs this normal?
He often plucks his feathers, so i am guessing he is in stress from the new environment. He is scared of everyone appart from me. Also...he won't leave his cage. İ feel sad because İ don't know if these signs are normal or if they will go away. Please can you help me?? Confused
Thank You.

It's very normal for a bird to make noises when you are out of the room. It's contact call. And it will get louder. WhatI do is ignore it, then go back. That way they know that they aren't going to get you by screaming it's like a kid.
I just realized that I have never introduced myself I will do so now.

Ok lets try this for the third time. Give him time to get comfortable with the cming out of the cage. It's his safety place right now. Sit next to him and talk to him, sing to him( yes sing to him) read to him. Then try to pet him, but pet him on the head.

as you have him only recently, it takes time to get used to the new things.
he will get more curious in time. you could give him some toys to play with, make him listen to nice music, read books to him or even sing and dance. try to make him be involved in many things. show him that it is ok.
in time he will be better, just be patient
