Help=( all of a sudden shes a completely different bird
Hello Im new to the forum my name is Raven and I recently bought an umbrella goffin mix and she was the most amazing bird since the day I got her! From the moment we met we just had a conection, the guy sold her to me and I had only ever interacted with her through a cage so I was a little nervous about taking her home and seeing how she really takes to me..but I got her home and the first thing she did was jump in my lap and cuddle me to death. It was love I couldnt believe how loveable and trusting she was to me already. It was this way for two weeks until last thursday I go to get her out of the cage(she always just perches on my hand and I take her out) and she flipped out! She wouldnt go anywhere near me. So I thought maybe it was because I was in her cage or something like that because I was told that sometimes they can act a little different in their cage....so I let her climb out and then I tried to get her to come to me again and she wouldnt, I went and took off all my jewelry and changed my shirt to something white because she loves when I wear white and still no change in her attitude twords me=( She wont talk to me anymore or come to me anymore. I took her to the vet to make sure she wasnt sick and they said she looked perfectly healthy.
If she is uncomfortable she will run to me...like I let her walk around my house and when she would get to a room she didnt know she would run back to me and stand on my feet. And she wont bite me shes not agressive or anything its like shes afraid of me=(
It is tearing me apart! does anyone know whats going on? or did I do something wrong?
please help me

Sorry it took me some time to activate your membership but we've had problems with spammers..
What's your bird's name? I'm so sorry to hear that she's afraid of you now. Cockatoos are very very complex birds. Strangely, they can suddenly decide that something is wonderful or very fearful. I've heard it from my friend too.
Do you know what made her freak out? Some kind of noise outside? Was it darker than usual?

Her name is spanky (she had that name when I got her) I dont know what happened...Ive tried interacting with her at different points in the day and she still just wont come near me...her room is very peaceful and its her own room all to herself. it seems to be getting worse and shes starting to be mean to other people too

Can anyone help me? she starting to get mean to everyone and she bit me today for the first time since Ive had her! if this keeps up I dont know if I can keep her=( emotionaly its killing me and she doesnt seem happy anymore either...she never wants to come out she doesnt talk or dance and only wants to sit her cage and not come out. she used to love being the center of attention and now its like she doesnt want it=(

She's still quite a recent addition to your family so you haven't had a lot of time to get used to each other yet. Perhaps you could try just sitting near her when she's in her cage and let her get used to you. They can take a long time to get used to you and when you first bring them home they don't show their full personality at first. Maybe this is the time to start training her and you will get lots of good advice from the people on this site.
