Interesting difference between Cockatoo species  Reply with quote

I just read an interesting Cockatoo article in the recent Bird Talk magazine about the difference between Corellas (generally the smaller Toos - Goffins, Bare Eyed, Ducorps, SB) and the larger Toos - including all sizes of SC2. They claimed that the larger Toos and SC2s have a longer attention span, therefore are more likely to be better candidates for bird shows, and do stuff like work on a lock to be able to open it, or other detailed tasks, or be more persistent to begging for attention, etc.
Corellas on the other hand, although just as intelligent, tend to have a shorter attention span and get distracted more easily, and are more high energy. I think that's why they are a little more inclined to be independent than the other group of Toos. I would say that in Starion's case, that is definitely true. That Slender Billed girl gets distracted so easily, she will literally forget that she was right in the middle of eating or asking for attention, when before you know it she will have gotten distracted by several of her toys instead! She's crazy like that. She will often jump from toy to toy, or one activity to the next in a short time frame, and is extremely active. Smile

That is so funny! Starion is really a clown too, but I still don't think she is near as funny as Apollo! Part of her funniness is that she is so comical looking that nearly everything she does is funny to me! Laughing

I have a Goffins called Goffey and he likes anything mechanical. If he sees anyone putting something together or mending something he has a good concentration span, also if anyone used a screwdriver or spanner, other wise his main hobby is sitting on your lap and being fussed. He gets so carried away with ecstacy that he falls over and of course it's never his fault. Laughing
