is a mirror a good idea  Reply with quote

When Lucy is out of her cage, she runs to a mirror that is on the wall in her room. Is it wise for her to have a mirror? I know some birds should not have them. We have a BE2 about 8 months old.

Is Lucy running up to the mirror a good thing or a bad thing? meaning is she attacking it the reflection? or is she wanting to cuddle it? I know that my cockatoo freak when he sees his own image in the mirror!! and he'll go all out attacking this bird that's doing exactly the same thing as he! It's sooo funny to watch.. though he's calmed down a lot now when he sees the mirror.. not as viscious as before.. hehe

Unless you can fine a really really strong mirror that you know Lucy can't break and hurt herself, I would recommend not to have it. I know I wouldn't put it in for any of my birds, as it is, my budgies have companions, and my cockatoo hates any other bird period!!

Right now she seems to enjoy just sitting there and preening. I try to really watch her close since she's just now learning how to play with toys and eat fresh veggies ect. The people who had her didn't give her much in those areas. I'm not sure how much pellets and veggies she eats or how much she's just throwing out. I was so happy when she tore up her first toy! What a thing to be happy about! She goes in for her first vet visit Monday. I think she's fine but still want that first visit to be sure.

Picasso loves mirrors, sometimes he play attacks them but most of the time he just licks them. He has one made of polished stainless steel rather than a glass one.

I don't think dorY really likes mirrors, she has 1 in her cage, someimte sshe looks at it wierdly and sometimes she tries 2 attack it. And she use2 fly into a biiig mirror infront of her cage.. I think (but i don't know much) that it depends on the bird.

Yeah, I think it depends on the bird too. Some may even be frightened of "that other bird" for awhile. And like Bih says, you don't want something she can break.
I've got a small mirror toy in my 'tiels cage & it's his one & only buddy (which is why I finally gave him one), but not for Jennie or Manu.
