Hi , no I haven't got her yet. The director of the rescue where I get my birds came down with that nasty flu last week.I'm afraid to call and see when he is coming over because I don't want to bother him while he is recuperating. I had the flu three weeks ago and it knocked me for a loop. Worst thing I ever had. I will probably call today because I am getting anxious. I also won a raffle put on by my rescue. I won a beautiful painting by a local artist of two macaws preening eachother. Can't wait to get that too. I will keep you posted. I'm sure she will be coming this week. I'm all ready for her. Karen |

Hi , yes I did call and sure enough he got the flu. He has had it for a week and just went back to work yesterday. He said he is going to bring over three goffins to see how they react to my fids and family. Yes, they have already been vet checked and quarantined. All the birds that come to the rescue are vet checked and quarantined at a separate location prior to going to the rescue. My birds also have to have a vet check for contagious diseases before they allow any of their birds in my home. They are pretty thorough. They also have people come out and do home inspections before allowing an adoption to go through. Tell you more when I get the new baby. Karen |

Hi Sue, I just got the new cockatoo. He is a goffins. Cutest thing and sooo small compared to my M2 and MSC2. It's like having a little parakeet. He was a little nippy but I think he was scared. He seemed to be comfortable in his cage and fell right to sleep. I'll tell you how things go in the morning. Hope he sleeps well tonight. Karen PS. His name is Trooper and he is six years old. |

It's noon here and Trooper is doing great. He's already had a bath and is eating his cooked veggies. He seems to have fit in wonderfully. He is so pretty and is fully feathered. I didn't realize how much pink the goffins had in their feathers. So far so good. Karen |

Congrats Karen!
I am so sorry I didn't respond any sooner!
I am so glad to hear that Trooper is doing OK with you.. And that he is already eating veggies!
Those goffins are just adorable. I almost couldn't resist one goffin..
Trooper is just too cute, will he keep that name? Or are you thinking of a new name? (Because he has a new home: New start?)
I think the pink differs from goffin to goffin? |

Yes he will keep his name because it's in the contract of the rescue I got him from. If they are older they ask that you keep their names. I gave him a bath yesterday, he loved it, and the color under is feathers is more orange than pink. He even has an orange hue on his chest. It's really quite pretty. He's just so comfortable here. He even ate out of the same food bowl as my M2. He thought that was great, she didn't, but she's very gentle. When I told her to give him a kiss she gave him a little kiss on the beak. I think I told you about their quarantine proceedures. The have already been given tests for PBFD, Psittacosis, fecal tests, blood work etc. They are usually fostered in a quarantine house before coming to the rescue. I know I would get alot of crap from the other sites if they knew they were in the same room as my existing Too's but I really trust this rescue and have only heard wonderful things. They would never do anything to harm my Too's or theirs. I'll keep you up on his progress and how the honeymoon period is going. Karen |

I see..
It's great that he loves to bath! How do you give him a bath? Or do you spray him?
Did your m2 let him touch her foodbowl?! He he he, she is much bigger, she could easily chase him away but those small 'stinkers' don't care about their size!
It's too cute that she gives other birds kisses on command, does she always do this?
I guess you can also train Zazu to do this..
Was Trooper housed in a quarantine house as well? I guess he is tested?
By the way, when they are older, they usually have more resistance against diseases like pbfd.. (Their immune system is better than when they were bappies)
I am sure you won't do anything that could harm your birds.. You sound very responsible..
Honeymoon period doesn't have to pass by the way.
I think the first days at your place are very important, because if you set the rules, honeymoon can last forever. (With some minor struggling) |

Hi Sue, I use a spray bottle for Troopers bath and Sambirds bath(MSC2) and my M2, Sammie, goes in the shower with me. To your question about my M2 giving kisses, yes she does do it on command to anybody and anything, she also poops on command when I say go poop. It helps when she is on me. Six years and she has never dropped a little gift on me. It's a great rescue and the head of it is a Sargeant with the police department. He started doing this when he would raid drug houses and find exotic animals and birds in deplorable conditions. He also does informational seminars with the zoo on raptors. Right now he has about 40 adoptable birds. My MSC2 I adopted from them in August. She would shred her feathers and now she is completely feathered. No more shredding. The director of the rescue was so impressed. That made me feel great and Sambird remembered him the minute he walked in. It was really sweet. As far as Trooper quarantine, yes he was. He is six years old. I don't know to much of his history. I find it sometimes better not to know so I don't make any judgements on how they are going to act etc. All I know he was given up by a lady who said she had cancer but then she ended up buying a Macaw. Sounds to me like she wasn't ready for a Too. Thanks for letting me ramble, but I haven't met any other bird people in my area and I tend to get carried away, sorry. Karen |

Hi there Karen!
I haven't been online very much lately, so my reply is a bit late..
How sweet that your M2 just kisses on 'command'.. And just with anybody LOL!
Did you potty train her yourself? Or did she train herself? (I have heard some birds just won't 'go' on their parronts)
I think it's impressive that your MSC2 is fully feathered now. I am still struggeling with Zazu's plucking.
It goes up and down.. But I'm working on it! He is getting more comfortable though with new situations (He used to freak out with a lot of things!) than he used to be let's say three or four years ago!
I wouldn't worry to much about Trooper, as he had his quarantaine obviously!
It breaks my heart to hear that Trooper was given up for a macaw.. Ah well, some people..
I know what you mean with getting carried away when it comes to bird chatter.. People around me sometimes really get fed up with my bird stories.. So when I meet bird people, I just keep on rattling..
So just keep on rambling! I love bird chatter!

Hi Sue, We trained her to kiss on command and go potty. When she was young we traveled alot with her and found out she didn't like to go to the bathroom in her travel cage so we would take her out and tell her to go potty and she would. All the birds are doing great but I think hormones are raging. They are a little more vocal than normal. I think it's because there is a new man in the house, Trooper. The girls are fighting for his affection. Not really, they get a little freaked out when he flaps his wings and god for bid be flies across the room, they almost fall off their perches. It's so funny and he is just adorable. What a great addition. I'm so glad we could give him a home. Sue, how bad does Zazu pick. I've seen pictures of him and it didn't look like he picked. My Sammie doesn't pick, she snaps her feathers into a V pattern. It's been two years and I just don't let it upset me too much or she gets worse. She always has down on her chest so she is not completely bald and I'm just so glad she's not a mutilator. Karen |

Hi there karen!
He he he, funny to hear that your girls are fighting for Trooper's attention..
Not litterally ofcourse.. He he he!
Funny how birds are so 'human' in some ways.
Zazu does pluck his feathers, he pulls them out when they're not fully grown, and when he pulls them, he screams..
It's heartbreaking..
I have heard of birds doing the same as your Sammie.. |
