New Molucan Cockatoo  Reply with quote

Very Happy Hi everyone! I have just aquired a M2 who is aproximately 15 years old now. His name is Jasper! He is such a sweatheart with a gentle soul. He even talks. Very Happy I have had him for under a week.

Crying or Very sad His original owner passed away a few years ago and he then lived in 3 other homes, which did not treat him well. He began plucking his chest and legs. Crying or Very sad

Fortunately he is growing in new feathers and has stopped plucking! Very Happy I have a HUGE cage and perch stand for him.

I am mostly concerned about his diet. Any suggestions for a picky eater? He has eaten grapes, plums, chicken, tortilla chips, bread and eggs. He tosses everything else I try to feed him for good food, as well as seeds and the pellets I offer him.

I know it will take time, but I don't want him to starve! Shocked ANY M2 advice will be appreciated, since I am a beginner.

I will post lots of pictures soon of my M2, Sun Conure, 2 Tiels and 1 Budgie! Very Happy

Take care!

Congrats! Can't wait for the pics. About the food I would try soaking the pellets in fruit juice. I would also try warm foods (not hot) or try and show him how good food is by making a big deal out of it. If you are eating something (or pretending to eat something) and showing how much you like it then he just might want to try it too.

Hey Sarah! I'm sooo surprised! A moluccan cockatoo? That's quite a dedication!
Congrats! Very Happy I am really looking forward seeing pics of Jasper!

Be careful of him manipulating you. Zazu will do it too. Not eating for half a day, worrying me. (He's waiting for treats)
Try to pack pellets in a paper, Zazu will eat them with gusto then, and he's even a very tidy eater then!

Hi!  Reply with quote

Very Happy Yes, I feel fortunate and even though they take a lot of extra care I am happy knowing he will (hopefully) live a happy life. He definately has a loud voice Shocked , but he has a gentle spirit. His eating habbits are my only concern for now. Smile

Pictures will be uploaded this week, I promise!!

Woooooo talk about a junk food junkie!!! LOL...

If he eats bread, you can alwawys try making your own birdie bread with different healthy ingredient in it for him to get a taste for other food. May be he might learn to eat good food then? Can you add like a few pieces of healthy food in for him, small enough so he can't pick it out and chuck it away?

Does he eat his pellets? Can you mesh some veggies and mix some pellets in for him to try? Just a few thoughts/suggestions.

oh and a big congratulations on your new addition to your flock. Very Happy
