The vet isn't sure if he will join the practice yet, he only came over to look at the place this week, but he is in Sydney anyway so technically I could still see him. I don't know what treatments he has in mind but as long as they are not too invasive and not too expensive it's worth a try, at this point in time Picassos quality of life is more important. I have already been using echinacea periodically in his water to keep up his immune system and I'm going to ask him about the willow branches to relieve his symptoms but aside from that I don't know what he has in mind, who knows maybe Picasso will be the first birdy ever to get acupuncture Laughing

Acupuncture! Hey, you never know!
I agree whole heartedly about Picassos quality of life being the major concern, & I wouldn't probably consider anything at all rishky, or invasive either.
You know all of us here wish only THE BEST for you & Picasso! I think you've both done wonderful, from what I know of the disease!

Ha ha ha accupuncture. I wonder if Picasso would lay still for as long as they're busy with the needles??

I agree with Cathy.. I think you've both done great!

His fecal smears came back and they are all clear. I'm a little worried about the amount of liquid in his poo, the vet said it could just be because of the molt or it could be his kidneys, I have to wait and see if it settles down over the next month.

That's good news about the fecal smear. I sure hope it's not the kidneys causing his poo to be liquidy. Is kidney deterioration part of the disease?
I'm sorry, if I ask too many questions just tell me to give it a rest & I'll certainly understand. I just know so little about it ....

Oh Shells, I certainly hope that it's because of the molt that he's having watery poop.
And good news about the fecal smear...

Awww Shell Sad I feel so sad about the whole situation for you. I can't imagine how you must feel and how desperate you must be for a cure or good treatment Crying or Very sad I really hope his new treatment will work out for him. He is such a good spirited birdy proving that with his little rain dance. I think he'll be just fine with a bald head as long as he knows that his mum still loves him which we all know you do Very Happy

I don't think kidney problems are part of PBFD, it makes him vunerable to disease but doesn't actually cause it.

Have any of you guys ever tried accupuncture? I tried it once and it made me have really deep and good sleep at night, normally I don't sleep through the night and wake up at least 5 times. So I definitely believe in it, and if it's so great for humans then I have no doubt that birds could benifit from it too. But they lie when they say the needles don't hurt Confused they do Shocked

PBFD causes beak and feather abnormalities and some birds go bald, it affects their immune system too, kind of like a bird version of AIDS, only birds get it.
I suspect Picasso is drinking a lot of water, his urine doesn't have that pungent amonia odour the lorikeets had.
Thanks everyone for your support Smile
