i have a 10 month old goffin who has begun chewing all his tail and wing feathers and no longer can fly. he has company all day with my african grey . he isnt a great eater and love his egg food each evening moistened with a little hot water. also he cries every time to come out and once out and getting cuddles he continuously cries into your face despite recieving all the attention. if anyone could help that would be great , thanks, cliff

Awww, poor baby...

how long have you had him for? and did you wean the bird yourself? Goffins can take a while to wean, some up to 12 months old, or even more. That crying noise you hear, isn't a attention seeking noise, it is in fact begging for food.

My Apollo when I first got him, he regressed to being a baby, and wanted his comfort food, I would give that to him and he'd stop crying for an hour or so and start up all over again, and i'll give him some more, and this basically repeats itself when he saw me. Well till this day, he still gets his comfort food during the day and before he goes to bed, but without the crying of course.

try mixing the egg food to a egg sause consistency then warm it up a little and feed him that when he starts crying. You need to give him as much attention now as you can, then slowly wean the attention time off when he has adjusted to the family. the last thing you want to do now is to create an insecure baby, and by not meeting his needs now, he'll pick up that he'll have to fight for his food around your family and he'll become neurotic.. may be that's why he's shredding it's feathers at the moment too. he doesn't feel secure enough.
