| When do they start talking |
|
|
I've been wondering... Lucy is 7-8 months old now. If she ever talks, does anyone have an idea on how she might be when she starts? We have a Macaw in another room down the hall from Lucy and those 2 yell back and fourth alot. Angel has even learned Lucy's screams. OH LUCKY US!! Angel is louder.. LOL I'm hoping Lucy may even learn a few words from Angel and Angel knows "hello", "hi", "bye-bye", "I love you", "cracker", "good girl" and loves to bark. She also loves to repeat the same word over and over very fast. LOL A few weeks ago all we heard was "cracker" in 100 different ways for a solid week! I'm hoping Lucy will pick up on some of this. Atleast I think we do!! LOL |

LOL... those two sounds like an earfull when they get going!!!
Different birds are different in their ability to talk. i'm sure you realised that. Corellas aren't really known for their talking ability. they can pick up stuff, but not as much as say the macaw. My Apollo started saying his first word when he was around 6-7 months old.. he's now about a year and half, and he can say... Apollo, Polo (short for his name), step up, cuddle cuddle, come on, good boy, hello *he combines the two together and we get 'hell boy' as well!!LOL) and says hello in a different tone to when we answer the phone. he barks, coughs and sneezes.. i've heard him cluck like the chooks way back when he first picked it up, but haven't heard him cluck like that since... he also makes a lot of noise that i have no idea what they mean....
lucy's probably talking, but not to an extent that you understand. just gotta listen carefully... as some of Apollo's word aren't the clearest and only myself and hubby can tell what he's saying by listening the tone that he says it.... he more imitates the tone of our voice than the actual pronouciation of the word. |

Just goes to show ya never know.. We were told they are the better talker of Toos. We really don't care. She's our Lucy.
Yes it does get loud around here. Think of adding 2 Sun Conures, 1 Teil and a Parrotlet in on it. We keep waiting for the police to knock on the door with complaints. Our neighbors are gtreat! So far!! We haven't built the outside avairies yet.. LOL |

My umbrella cockatoo Calypso started speaking at around 9 months. He had a great vocaubulary (I thought so anyway.... I was such a proud mum) He said about 25 words. Every morning I would take off his blanket and say Hello Calypso - then one day he just said hello back to me. It was amazing... Then he would jsut pick up words that he heard frequently like his name, good boy, good bird and be quiet and be good.... haha |

My Citron cockatoo started talking at around 9 months old and that's a few weeks after bringing her home.
She started by saying hello and went from there.
She can utilize her whole vocabulary now. WHen it gets dark or she is ready to go to sleep, she says it's time for the pretty bird to go nite nite, or she calls the airplane the biiiig pretty bird. She will se a wildbird outside the window and she'll say see the bird, look at the bird. |

Sometimes it seems like I start to wonder about these guys and they know it so they put my wondering to rest. Lucy is talking!! While I was chopping breakfast, I heard her say "hello", "hi' and maybe "whatca doing". When my partner gets home from work and is going thru the house to bed, she passes Lucy and our B&G . She always says hi or whatcha doing even tho it's 4:30 am just to let them know it's her walking by. They make a small sound and nothing more.If she says nothing, they get upset and scream. We think that's where Lucy is getting "whatcha doing". It's the sweetest sound and you are right Cheeta. I'm not sure if anyone else would understand what she said but we sure do! I am so tickled!! |

hi Cristia
Welcome back. it's been awhile hasn't it?!!? how are you and and how's Rosie going?
Galah unfortunately is not known for their talking ability. i've seen may be two or three so far that says a word or two. My parents galah doesn't talk, he just screeches when he gets excited!! lol..
I guess the way to teach it would be to keep talking to her and hope for the best. Generally repeating a word, but in context to what you're doing at the time is better than just repeating words over and over and over again.
good luck!
cheers
