Black Capped (rupicola) versus Green Cheek (mollinae)  Reply with quote

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a pyrrhura and the two I like best are the black capped and the green cheek. Is there any real difference in behavior etc between the two? I'm looking for a bird that will (hopefully) play nice with my red rumped parrot and that's not too noisy.

(The red rumped and the pyrrhura will each have their own cage, but I'm hoping I can let them out to play together when I'm present.)

I think the Pyrrhura conures are all very similar in temperament, and probably varies more with the individual. We don't have many Black Capped over here in the US. It is hard to say what is "noisy". What is noisy to one person, might be nothing to another person. I'd say it has definitely a louder voice than the Red rumped. Are you more concerned with frequency of noise, or volume? I don't think the Pyrrhuras are that bad compared with larger birds, or the Aratinga conures, but it depends on how you can stand the pitch of their particular noise. I know of male Cockatiels who are extremely noisy and drive me nuts with that sound, even though they are not loud! I'd say, try to find sound clips or videos with sound on the internet of Black Caps, or at least another Pyrrhura species to get an idea of how they sound. Good luck Smile
