| Blue Crown going thru phase? |
|
|
Does anyone know where I can read up on the development of immature Blue Crowns?
We're afraid we're gonna screw up our baby (hatched in May, we got him about a week and a half ago) -- like most parents, I suppose .
I mentioned in another post that he's been incredibly well mannered in the noise department as far as I'm concerned. It could be that I assume a certain noise level with a bird, but he doesn't match our cockatiel for shrill and somehow doesn't seem as bad to me. She doesn't get shrill often, but when she does it makes my head spin. That's a whole other deal, though.
Anyway, he's gotten very...chewy. Like hard chewy. On my fingers, on my ears...and he's not angry or upset. At least his body language doesn't show that. Usually (and I know we've only had him not quite two weeks) he just grooms my fingernails, and my face, and my hair, and we had a little issue at first with him not quite realizing the difference between groom and bite. Then he was good as gold for a few days, and now...it's all about the not-so-gentle beak.
Is he possibly hormonal? Is there something going on at this stage in his life I should know about? Or is he just testing us?
Testing us? I mention it because he's been really willful about stepping up. He'll step up for anything BUT a bare finger. He doesn't mind if fingers pet him, or play with him, or anything else. He'll even lift his wing, wanting us to rub under it. And this is probably gonna sound weird, but I can see it in his little eyes, that he KNOWS darn good and well what "step up" means, he just isn't going to do it[img][/img]
Any advice or anything would be great. There's a lot of conflicting advice out there, and while I know that you don't punish a bird, I want to make sure I'm not reinforcing bad behavior on accident. |
